Indoor track roundup: Algonquin's White wins pair of D2 state championships; LaBelle, Wiafe also take titles

Boys' track

Division 2 state meet: Senior Stephen White doubled up with victories in the mile and 2 mile, and the 4x880-meter relay team of Joseph Lamburn, Jonah Gould, Matthew Zhang and Aiden Ruiz also won in 8:14.9, leading Algonquin (41½ points) to a third-place finish out of 24 teams at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

North Andover was the team champion with 61 points, followed by Wellesley (57½).

White won the mile in 4:24.63, and classmate Christopher Kardos finished sixth in 4:31.28. White later prevailed in the 2 mile in 9:43.82.

Gould (2:36.5) collected five points for the Titans by placing fourth in the 1,000. Algonquin junior Max Eigen (6,609) tied for fifth in the 55 dash with Wellesley junior Sincere Fontaine.

Westborough senior Sebastian Grillo was third in the shot put with a top throw of 48 feet, 1½ inches.

Division 1 state meet: St. John's senior Antonio Wiafe claimed the state title in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11¾ inches as the Pioneers tied with Taunton for 16th with 10 points on Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Acton-Boxborough took the team title with 51 points, topping Lexington (39 points) and Brockton (38-1/3) for the title.

Shrewsbury was 22nd with eight points, as the Colonials were led by Darius Gibbons, who notched a personal-best heave of 51-1¾ to take second in the shot put.

Girls' track

Division 2 state meet: Algonquin senior Olivia LaBelle (8.39 seconds) won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.39 seconds, and she ran the second leg of the Titans' victory in the 2x200 relay as the school placed sixth (31 points) out of 25 teams. Algonquin also placed sixth in the 4x800 relay (10:18.01).

Wellesley was the team champion with 80 points, followed by Woburn (58½) and Hopkinton (40½).

In the 300, Algonquin senior Audrey Helwig (42.24) was fifth, Leominster senior Tishany Delarosa (42.82) was seventh and Algonquin junior Arianna Gentile (43.04) eighth.

Algonquin senior Sheila Purcell (3:06.84) finished eighth in the 1,000 and anchored the 4x800 relay. Sophomore teammate Niamh O'Sullivan (5-0) placed seventh in the high jump, and Westborough junior Regan Sullivan (4-10) tied for eighth.

Division 1 state meet: Nyah Santana posted a personal-best 40.07 seconds to take second in the 300 meters, Naomi Witt finished fourth in the mile in a personal-best 5:09.04, and the duo also teamed with Anna Namiotka and Rahma Giwa to win the 1,600 relay (4:11.99) to help Wachusett finish sixth with 36 points at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Thursday.

Giwa finished fourth in the 300 (41.22). Santana and Giwa were also a part of the 800 relay that placed second in 1:47.01, edged by Central Catholic (1:46.78).

Central Catholic won the meet with 64 points, while Framingham placed second with 48.
