Indians fall hard to Hornets in home finale
Apr. 19—Hudson's Hornets kept their hopes for a district championship alive by beating Jacksonville, 13-1 (five innings, mercy rule), Friday night in the Tribe's final game of the season at Summers Norman Field.
Hudson batters rocked three Jacksonville pitchers for 11 hits in posting the win.
The Hornets' Kole Larsen picked up the win on the mound. He went the distance and gave up one run on two hits. Larsen struck out 10 and walked five.
Two Jacksonville seniors, Jayden Boyd and Hayden Thompson each had a base hit. Thompson also drove in the Indians' run, which came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Giancarlo Rico led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch.
With one out, Harrison Penn reached base after drawing a walk. Back-to-back free passes to Boyd and Thompson with two outs pushed the run across the plate for the Indians, who ended the frame by leaving the bases loaded.
Elijah Gallegos, Jacksonville's third pitch of the night, pitched well. He worked 1.2 innings and gave up one run, which was earned, on one hit. Gallegos didn't walk or strike out anyone.
The Hornets left town with a 21-5-1, 8-1 slate while the Indians are now 6-16-1, 1-8.
Jacksonville is scheduled to wrap up its season at 7 p.m. Tuesday by traveling to Rusk. The Eagles, who lost, 7-6 to Madisonville Friday, are also 1-8 in league play.
