Indiana football lands commitment from experienced ODU safety transfer Terry Jones

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football locked up verbal commitments from both of Old Dominion's starting safeties on Thursday night after Terry Jones followed his teammate Shawn Asbury's lead.

Jones immediately becomes the most veteran player at the position for new coach Curt Cignetti. He played in 40 games (26 starts) in four seasons. He earned honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors last year with 107 tackles (30 solo) with tackles for a loss, four pass breakups and one forced fumble. He had double-digit tackles in 6 of the 12 games he started.

The defender was an unranked prospect coming out of Mergenthaler Vocational in Maryland back in 2019. The Monarchs were the only FBS team to offer him a scholarship.

Jones gives Indiana seven projected scholarship players at safety. Josh Sanguinetti is the only returning defender from last year's team who played 300 or more defensive snaps.
