Inaugural FCA Johnson County Fields of Faith set for May 10 at The Depot

May 3—The Depot at Cleburne Station is set to host the inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes' Johnson County Fields of Faith on May 10.

Junior high and high school students from throughout Johnson County and surrounding areas are welcome to attend a night of worship, fellowship and hearing fellow students' testimonies.

Kristi Mayes, an assistant basketball and softball coach at Godley High School, has been an FCA advisor for many years and they've previously held Fields of Faith nights in Godley twice a year, but they decided to expand it for a county-wide event.

"I was just driving by the stadium one day and I thought that would be a good place to hold a bigger Fields of Faith for any kids that want to come," Mayes said. "We got in contact with [Cleburne Railroaders General Manager] John Junker and we went from there. He was willing to open the gates for us and he thought it would be cool."

Gates at The Depot, home of the Railroaders, will open at 6 a.m. Wednesday and Fields of Faith will go from 7 p.m. to around 8:30 p.m.

Mayes said the Johnson County Fields of Faith isn't solely for current FCA student-athletes; they want every junior high and high school student in Johnson County to attend.

"Even though it's called 'Fellowship of Christian Athletes,' I like to call it 'Fellowship of Anybodies,'" Mayes said. "This is an event for any junior high or high school kid who wants to come, even if they just want to see what's going on. We've advertised and sent emails to other schools and churches. We're really trying to get the word out there that it's going to be a night of worship, fellowship and hearing student testimony.

"Our hope is that kids will be ministered to, will hear testimonies about loving God and want to seek a relationship with Christ. We want it to be an experience, not an event. We want them to experience Christ, not just be something they go to."

StoneWater Church Godley will lead worship and student leaders from Godley ISD and Glen Rose ISD will share student testimonies.

Chick-fil-A sandwiches will be provided as well as free Bibles and 100 FCA T-shirts.

"Dr Evan Perkins, an orthodontist in Godley, donated 60 Bibles and then our FCA representative donated 100," Mayes said. "Chick-fil-A Burleson is donating 100 sandwiches and Gary Reston is buying 100. Chicken Express in Cleburne is donating tea and cups. We've got some free items for kids to come. It takes a village to put something like this on.

"Pinnacle Bank Cleburne has donated. ACS Bank in Godley has donated. Double Rock in Godley has donated. Stonewater has donated. Then we've got some private donations as well to help pull this off."
