IHSAA gymnastics sectional: Bloomington North 3-peats, South has 'best meet of season'

Bloomington North finished first on bars and floor and second on beam to just slip by Columbus North to win a third straight sectional gymnastics title at Franklin Central on Friday.

The Cougars finished with a 106.4, scoring a 28.0 on floor and 25.8 on bars to go with a 26.625 on beam to top the Bull Dogs (106.0). Bloomington South, which was best on beam (26.775) and top three in every event, had a season-best 103.7 to easily outdistance the host Flashes (101.6) for the last qualifying spot.

"They have worked on building confidence and tonight, it all came together," South coach Michelle Stroud said. "All four athletes hit beam, it was four for four on all events. I could not have asked for any more from them."

Martinsville was sixth (99.2), led by individual qualifier Gabby Grubb, while Edgewood was ninth (95.05) and Owen Valley 10th (94.65) to see their seasons come to an end.
