Soccer preview: Getting you ready for 2023 season
GOALIES
Cassie Nowlan, Fishers, Sr.
Nowlan returns for her senior season after allowing only 10 goals with a .846 save percentage and nine shutouts. Her season was highlighted by a draw vs. Zionsville and a streak of six straight scoreless appearances.
Olivia Hill, Bishop Chatard, Sr.
The Winthrop commit made 123 saves (5.9 per game) and conceded 16 goals last season. Hill made 15 saves in a 1-0 win over Guerin Catholic, 16 in a 2-1 triumph over Cathedral and 15 in a sectional win over Brebeuf.
Hailey Wade, Hamilton Southeastern, Sr.
The Valparaiso commit anchors an HSE backline that was lights out in 2022. For her part, Wade allowed just five goals and logged a career-high 33 saves over 15 games played.
Bella Wyatt, Noblesville, Jr.
Wyatt dazzled in the state tournament, allowing just one goal over six postseason games (five straight shutouts). She allowed four goals and made 34 saves for the season.
DEFENDERS
Catherine Cline, Cathedral, Sr.
The Loyola Chicago commit led the Fighting Irish in assists last season (12), but she's moving to defense this year as 2022 regional finalist Cathedral retools its backline.
Paige Dill, Park Tudor, Jr.
Dill will be critical to the Panthers' success this season as they adjust to having a new keeper. Also a kicker for the PT football team, she has five goals and four assists for her career.
Rowan Pearl, Brebeuf Jesuit, Sr.
The Braves return their entire backline. That group's headlined by Pearl, who anchored a unit that allowed just 14 goals through 19 games. She also contributed three goals and three assists.
Blair Satterfield, Hamilton Southeastern, So.
Satterfield jumped right in as a freshman, starting for a Royals team that allowed 10 goals over 17 games and limited opponents to 52 shots on goal. The multi-sport athlete also scored a goal.
Mia Smith, Westfield, Jr.
Smith garnered all-state honors after logging 1,289 minutes with a defense that surrendered 21 goals against a stacked schedule. She also jumped in with the attack, tallying the first three assists of her career.
MIDFIELDERS
Kylie Brandes, Mt. Vernon, Jr.
The county and conference player of the year recipient and a two-sport standout (she also stars as a tennis player), Brandes is coming off a 10-goal, 10-assist campaign for the sectional runner-up Marauders, who return the majority of their lineup.
Olivia Cebalo, Carmel, Jr.
An ankle injury slowed, but didn't stop Cebalo, who scored 10 goals and three assists over 1,161 minutes (23 games). She should shine again within a revamped Carmel offense.
Ayla Conn, Hamilton Southeastern, Sr.
Conn is the top returning scorer for the Royals. The Northern Kentucky recruit notched six goals and three assists, while also aiding a defense that allowed only 10 goals.
Megan Hamm, Carmel, Sr.
Hamm caught fire in the state tournament (five goals, five assists) and plans to maintain that momentum into the fall. She scored a team-high 12 goals and nine assists for the 3A runner-up Greyhounds.
Atley Pittman, Noblesville, Jr.
Pittman figures to have an even larger role for the defending 3A champion Millers after posting a goal and three assists on the attack and helping a defense that surrendered six goals in 2022.
Lily Printz, Mt. Vernon, Sr.
Part of a large group of key returners from the Marauders' sectional runner-up squad, the Valparaiso-bound Printz scored a goal and dished out five assists. She is recovering from an offseason injury, but is expected to return soon.
Grace Sepiol, Zionsville, Jr.
Midfield will be a strength for the Eagles. Sepiol returns after contributing three goals and three assists with six shots on goal. She also helped a defense that allowed only 18 goals in 18 games.
Alex Soucie, Guerin Catholic, Sr.
Soucie leads a more-experienced Golden Eagles team into 2023 after scoring seven goals and five assists as a junior. For her career, the center mid has 11 goals and eight assists.
Taylor Wert, Center Grove, Sr.
The Mercer commit picked up the assist on two game-winning goals during the state tournament, and finished the season with a team-high 14 assists and seven goals (one off her career-high).
Talia Whitesel, Westfield, Sr.
The Miami (Ohio) commit made her presence felt defensively, helping a backline that allowed 21 goals for the season. Whitesel has nine career goals and six career assists.
FORWARDS
Dejanae Butler, Park Tudor, Sr.
The reigning Class A champion Panthers open the season ranked No. 1 in the coaches' rankings, and Butler is a big reason why. The 2022 all-state pick tallied career-highs in goals (24) and assists (19), leading PT to a 21-1-1 finish. She has 45 goals and 38 assists for her career.
Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian, Jr.
The Eagles will have a new look this season, but one constant should be Crooke, who scored 22 goals and six assists as a sophomore. She netted 35 goals as a freshman for the 2021 state champs.
Addison Duncan, Bishop Chatard, Sr.
Duncan delivered clutch goals in the City and regional championship games, and finished the year with nine goals and eight assists. The two-sport standout has 25 goals and 17 assists for her career.
Hailey Hoskins, Brownsburg, Sr.
The Purdue Fort Wayne commit lifted the Bulldogs to their third consecutive sectional title, tallying seven goals and five assists. Hoskins has 12 goals and 11 assists through three varsity seasons.
Meg Jacklin, Zionsville, Jr.
A key component to the Eagles' strong returning core, Jacklin netted a team-high nine goals and four assists. She logged 1,108 minutes and averaged about two shots per game (18 games).
Josie Studley, Brebeuf Jesuit, Sr.
Studley looks to lead the Braves in scoring for a fourth consecutive season. The first team all-state pick scored 15 goals and seven assists last fall, giving her 40 and 28 for her career.
Meredith Tippner, Noblesville, Jr.
A two-sport star, Tippner shined on the attack for the 3A state champions, totaling 15 goals and 10 assists. She averaged 5.4 shots per game (1.9 shots on goal per game).
Injury report: Roncalli's Summer Fishel (Jr., M), Carmel's Clare Simmonds (Sr., D) and Park Tudor's Dominae Butler (Sr., D), all 2022 Super Team picks, are out with injuries.
