First non-glacial skiing will open in 30 days!

We are officially less than a month from the opening of non-glacial ski season. Move over A-Basin, there's a pair of new early sheriffs in town, and their names are Ruka and Levi. That's right; these small Finnish resorts are both getting ready to spin lifts on October 6 with real natural snow. Collecting and storing snow as part of large snow-farming operations, the duo is set to have at least one slope open each without needing to fire up the snow guns. Are ya'll ready for this?

Side by side shows decline of Horstman Glacier

Speaking of glaciers, the internet shed a tear this week with a devastating side-by-side pic of Whistler's Horstman Glacier, and the very visual realities of climate change. The left side image shows the once popular summer ski glacier in July of 2006, looking full and even rocking a full terrain park. The second image, taken in August of 2023, is a stark contrast moonscape, barren of almost all snow and without a kicker in sight.

Czech gold medalist might be a pro waterskier now?

Ester Ledecka is the first athlete in history to win both a snowboarding and skiing gold medal in the Olympics but turns out she's not just a two-trick pony. Not to be outdone by Lindsey Vonn's wake surfing career, the Czech alpine racer showed her ski skills on the water this week with a kind of unreal display of waterski acrobatics. Hard to explain without watching for yourselves, but holy heck, what can't she do?!
