HSS Florida in West Palm Beach offering free physicals and EKGs for student-athletes

Preseason camp sessions are near and HSS Florida is out to prevent an annual battle between high school coaches and student-athletes: "Where is your (completed) physical packet?"

Free physicals will be provided from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 28 at the Hospital for Special Surgery, 300 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, West Palm Beach.

HSS Florida health professionals and volunteers will take students' medical history as part of the "special preseason" physical exam and musculoskeletal health screening they are offering. Nonprofit organization Who We Play For also will provide free EKGs to further examine heart health.

Event organizers said: "For students without health insurance or those with limited financial resources, the free health screening could mean the difference between playing a sport or sitting on the sidelines. Playing a sport means the world to these young athletes."

After the medical exam and testing, if no health issues are uncovered, an HSS physician will sign the form required for students to participate in Florida high school sports.
