Who are the top drivers and teams at the 2022 British Grand Prix?

Defending world drivers champion Max Verstappen enters the weekend on 175 points, 46 ahead of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez (129) and 49 ahead of Ferrari's Charles LeClerc (126). Red Bull holds a dominant lead in the constructors' standings with 304 points; ahead of Ferrari (228) and eight-time defending champion Mercedes (188).

Verstappen has the best odds for the grand prix win (-110). Yahoo Sports' Nick Bromberg, referencing a significant upgrade package Mercedes is bringing, notes that it may be worth taking a flyer on defending British Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton (+1000) for the race win.

What is the venue for the British Grand Prix?

The Silverstone Circuit sits on the site of a former World War II airfield having first hosted the British Grand Prix in 1948. It alternated for a time with the Aintree and Brands Hatch courses and has been the exclusive home of the race since 1987. The 3.66-mile circuit boasts a mixture of lengthy straightaways (three), and slow- and fast-speed corner complexes, most notably the famed Maggots-Becketts-Chapel sequence — a rapid right-left-right "S" bend.

There are two Drag Reduction System zones on the straightaways prior to Turns 5 and 15. The race is scheduled for 52 laps and the race lap record belongs to Verstappen (1:27.097, set in 2020).

It is a favorite of the seven teams whose factories are located in Great Britain (Alpine, Aston Martin, Haas, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull and Williams) as Silverstone is a short drive from all of them.

What is the weather forecast for the British Grand Prix?

Partly cloudy and mild with a high of 70 degrees for the weekend. Temperatures are typically much higher for the race with high tire degradation typically a major factor in race strategy. Cooler temperatures and the mounds of data each team has on Silverstone suggest straightforward pit strategy from the top teams.
