Texans RB Darius Anderson arrested on burglary with intent to commit assault charge
Houston Texans running back Darius Anderson was arrested Friday and charged with burglary with the intent to commit assault, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.
Houston Police initially entered his charge into their system as burglary with intent to rape, but that charge was amended on Tuesday after what they called a coding error.
According to ABC13 in Houston, Anderson’s ex-girlfriend said she returned home Friday morning after getting coffee and found Anderson’s car in her driveway. She said he forced himself into her home and refused to leave. The woman, per the report, said she then locked herself into a bathroom and called police, which is when Anderson left.
Anderson has denied the allegations against him. He is due in court next on Sept. 20, and was released on bail.
“He’s innocent,” said his attorney, Kelly Benavides, via Wilson. “He denies any allegations. We look forward to investigating and presenting our case in court and clearing his name.”
The Texans said in a brief statement on Monday afternoon that they were “aware of the report,” but declined to comment further.
Anderson spent four seasons at TCU, and he ran for a career-high 823 yards and six touchdowns during his senior season in 2019. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 after going undrafted, but he was cut a few months later. He then spent time with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Texans’ practice squad last December. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
