Horse racing-Fatalities at Melbourne Cup

Nov 4 (Reuters) - Following is a factbox on recent fatalities at the Melbourne Cup after Admire Rakti died on Tuesday: 2014: Japanese-trained favourite Admire Rakti collapsed and died on its return to the stalls after finishing last in the gruelling 3,200 metre handicap at Flemington Racecourse. 2013: French mare Verema was euthanised after the five-year-old Aga Khan-owned mare snapped a major bone in its lower leg at the 2,000 metre mark. 1998: Singapore-trained horse Three Crowns was put down after shattering a leg. 1979: Dulcify, the 3-1 favourite, broke down with a fractured pelvis and was later euthanised.
