Hoops Roundup: Hillsdale Academy, Litchfield and Pittsford boys earn bounce back wins

HILLSDALE COUNTY — Thursday night basketball games brought much-needed wins for a trio of boys basketball teams who looked to bounce back from earlier losses this week.

Several teams would also play on Wednesday night, but only the Hillsdale and North Adams-Jerome varsity girls basketball teams prevailed.

Pittsford boys hoops take down Tekonsha 66-15 for 12th win

The Wildcats and coach Mike Burger had back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday night. On Wednesday, the Wildcats traveled to Colon, dropping a 48-40 final to the Magi.

They bounced back Thursday at home, where seniors Gavyn Carden, Ryan Evener, Bryce Williams, Mason Payne, Landon Governo, Lane Lewis, Brady Hartman and Legend Gore were able to celebrate with a win during their final home contest of the season.

The 66-15 win over Tekonsha is their eighth conference win of the season and their 12th overall for the year. The Wildcats will make a run at finish runner-up in their division standings before the end of the season.

Seniors Gavyn Carden and Mason Payne each scored 15 points in their final home game. Payne scored all 15 points at 3-point range. Jake Drawe had nine points. Alex Logan had seven points. Nearly every Wildcat scored a basket on Thursday night.

Before the game, both teams would join forces to support Pittsford graduate and Wildcat boys hoops alumni Blade Gore by wearing Team Blade Gore warmup shirts before the game. Gore, a '22 graduate and older brother of Legend Gore, is currently battling Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

Pittsford Area Schools will be hosting Benefit for Blade on Saturday, March 9. The benefit will be held in the Pittsford Area Schools cafeteria. The proceeds will aid in Blade's medical costs and loss of income. Dinner will be provided by Ell Cerrito of Hillsdale. There will also be a basket raffle, bake sale, 50/50 drawing, T-shirts and bracelets. Additional information on donations and contact information can be found on the school's Facebook page.

Litchfield boys defeat North Adams-Jerome

The Terriers bounced back from two losses to earn a 62-18 road win at North Adams-Jerome. Due to illness, the Rams were short a couple of players. The Terriers were able to force turnovers in the second quarter to build out their lead.

The Terriers had a total of 15 steals, led by seven from senior Brandon Campbell, who also had five rebounds and seven assists. Tyler Bills had four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior Alvarez had four assists and two steals. Hunter Snyder had three steals. Simon Collins had six rebounds and three assists.

Leading the Terriers in scoring was Alvarez with 16 points, Bills and Collins with 11 and Miguel Pedroza with eight. Connor McKay had six points for the Rams.

Litchfield sits at 11-8 overall with games against Hillsdale Academy on the road and Pittsford at home to end their regular season.

Hillsdale Academy rebounds with 55-29 win over Jackson Christian

After losing to D4 No. 1 LCS at home in a 58-41 final, the Colts rebounded and got their 16th overall win of the season. They beat Jackson Christian 55-29 to stay perfect in SCAA East play.

Senior Dominic Scharer once-again led the team with 16 total points. The Colts are 16-4 overall this season. They will host senior night on Feb. 20 against Litchfield. They end the season on the road on Feb. 22 against Waldron. It is yet to be announced who they will face first in district play.

  • Boys Basketball: Waldron 49, Camden-Frontier 36

    • Waldron improves to 9-3 in division play. Waldron was led by Seth Williams with 22 points. Jacobi Gonzalez had 13 points. Troy Shamplo scored 11. Leading the way for Camden-Frontier was Luis Castro Thilo with 11 points. Kaiden Conroy scored eight points. Darran Drake had six.

  • Girls Basketball: North Adams-Jerome 59, Pansophia Academy 21

    • The Rams won their second game of the season. Kamryn Wagler led the team with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Maddie Horn had 13 points. Emilee McIntyre had eight points. Julyann Trumble scored seven.

  • Girls Basketball: Burr Oak 40, Litchfield 33

    • The Terriers fell to 8-8 overall.

  • Girls Basketball: Colon 57, Hillsdale Academy 38

    • The Colts drop to 10-7 overall but remain at 9-2 in league play. Senior Lydia Jackson had nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Colts. Seniors Ava King and Angela Alvarez had nine points and eight points, respectively.

  • Girls Basketball: Hillsdale 35, Dundee 33

    • The Hornets won their sixth game of the season in a low-scoring thriller against Dundee. The Hornets have one home game left on the schedule: Feb. 27 against Hillsdale Academy.

  • Girls Basketball: Stockbridge 57, Pittsford 26

    • Pittsford drops their second game of the week, now 12-5 overall. The Wildcats were led by Ava Mallar with 13 points. Laura LeMar had seven points. They have one more game this week and have a total of four more remaining after that.

  • Boys Basketball: Will Carleton Academy 47, Jackson Prep 44

    • WCA improved to 13-8 overall and won the semifinal match of the CAC tournament. Game number two will be played at Battle Creek Academy on Saturday at 7 p.m.

  • Girls Basketball: Quincy 34, Reading 27

    • The Rangers fall to 9-10 after a tough loss on the road in conference play. The team scoring effort was led by Aubree Ervans in with seven points, Jenna Londeau with six, and Ariana McDowell and Blakeleigh Cornstubble with three each. Abby Affholter had 11 rebounds. Maggie Santure led in assists with three.
