Hockey roundup: Willmar Cardinals look sharp in shutting down Minnesota River

Dec. 3—WILLMAR — The Willmar girls hockey team shut out Minnesota River to earn its fifth win of the season Saturday at Willmar Civic Center Arena.

Willmar (5-2) beat the Bulldogs, 3-0.

The Cardinals got goals from Avery Olson, Makenna Larson and Gabrielle Revier.

Olson, a junior, scored at 13:21 of the first period. She has three goals and two assists in seven games this season.

Larson, a senior, notched her third goal of the year at 1:22 of the middle frame.

Revier, a freshman at BOLD High School, scored her first goal as a Willmar Cardinal on an empty net at 15:05 of the third period.

Willmar plays Luverne at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Mound Ice Arena.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato trailed early but piled on four goals in the second period en route to a victory over the Morris/Benson Storm at Benson.

Morris/Benson led Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 2-0 into the first intermission. The Storm got goals from Bryce Lehman and Tucker Blume. Lehman's tally came on the power-play and he later scored a go-ahead goal for the Storm at 8:47 of the second period.

Tripp McCann led Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's comeback. The sophomore notched a hat trick, including two goals coming in the second period, and had an assist.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato next plays host to Minneapolis at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Morris/Benson goes to Willmar at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Blake Schultz had a huge game in helping the Stars to a big win at the River Lakes Civic Arena in Richmond.

Schultz, a senior, had four goals and three assists. He had a pair of goals in the first period and one each in the second and third periods.

Parker Welz and Matthew Dotzler each had three-point efforts for River Lakes. Both had one goal and two assists.

Carson Cronquist earned the shutout for the Stars. He saved all 11 shots he faced.

River Lakes next faces Brainerd at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Essentia Health Sports Center.
