Hillsdale softball scores 28 runs to earn their first victory of the 2024 season

HILLSDALE — Hillsdale varsity softball was searching to earn their first win of the spring sports season for 2024 heading into their Thursday night matchup with North Adams-Jerome. Coach Lauren Whedon says the team had shown resiliency battling through the recent drought, and the hard work paid off for the Hornets.

The team defeated North Adams-Jerome 28-13 to add their first W of the season to their overall record. The game finished after five innings. North Adams-Jerome starting the game out strong, scoring six runs in just the first inning. The Hornets rallied with two outs in the top of the second, scoring 11 straight runs.

"The Hornets tonight showed what drive, heart, and push can bring to those that never give up," coach Lauren Whedon said.

For Hillsdale, Jenae Aube went 2-4 with two singles and a walk. Kristyn Mapes went 3-3 with three singles and three walks. Layla Stebbins went 1-1 with a single and five walks. Maggi Riley went 4-4 with three singles, one double, and one walk.

Aubrey Peck went 1-3 with a single and three walks. Lydia Kunkel went 1-3 with a single and two walks. Mady Poore went 2-3 with a single, triple, and three walks. Karley Phillips went 2-2 with two singles Kailyn Frosch went 1-1 with a single and a walk.

The Hornets will now look to earn their second win of the year when they host Ida for a league game on Thursday, May 7. North Adams-Jerome softball looks to rebound against Hilltop this Saturday, May 4. Stats for North Adams-Jerome were not available at the writing of this article.
