Highlights from Watertown and Aberdeen American Legion baseball doubleheaders

RAPID CITY — Watertown Post 17 salvaged a split of an American Legion baseball doubleheader against Rapid City Post 320 on Saturday with an 11-7 win in the second game.

Rapid City won the opener 6-2.

Watertown led only 5-4 in the second game before erupting for six runs in the top of the sixth. Post 17's 11-hit attack included a triple by Jack Heesch and doubles from Carter Beynon and Drew Denzer. Heesch, Talan Jurgens and Dylon Rawdon each finished with two hits. Ryan Roby drove in three runs and Rawdon and Jurgens each two.

Kaden Rylance earned the win on the mound.

Mason Mehlhaff went 3-for-4 for Post 320, which also got a triple and s ingle from Kelby Denke and doubles from Jhett Peterson and Jett Wetzler.

In the first game, Wetzler tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts to lead Post 320 to the victory.

Isaac Dike had two hits and drove in two runs for the hosts, who also got doubles from Ryan Rufledt and Joe Corwin.

Heesch and Roby each had two of Watertown's seven hits. Jackson Maag took the loss despite allowed only two earned runs in six innings.

Aberdeen Smittys 12-17, Fargo Davies 2-7

ABEREEEN — The Smittys improved to 3-2 with the doubleheader sweep.

Phillip Zens smacked a triple and a double and Jaiden Smith also tripled to lead Aberdeen's offense in the opener. Drew Salfrank earned the win on the mound.

Casey Vining doubled and tripled and Smith tripled again in the second game for the Smittys. Zane Backous notched the win on the mound.

The Smittys visit Lake Norden on Tuesday.
