Three teams from the Coastal Bend will be making trips to regional volleyball tournaments this weekend.

Here's a breakdown of those three teams.

Region IV-5A

Flour Bluff Hornets

Record: 32-9

Regional semifinal opponent: Liberty Hill

How they got here: def. Laredo Martin (25-12, 25-16, 25-9); def. McAllen (25-7, 26-24, 25-15); def. Sharyland Pioneer (26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19)

Flour Bluff key players: Maggie Croft (623 kills, 50 aces, 125 total blocks, including 60 solo, 392 digs); Cylie Wong (220 kills); Lola Fisher (44 aces, 604 assists); Addison Mayo (456 digs); Ashley Stotz (599 assists)

Flour Bluff coach Kara Wallace on the Hornets: "The best thing about this team is that we have a ton of brand-new-to-varsity players and young athletes who have found a way to come together and compete regardless of their experience on the court at a varsity level. We have been the underdog in a sense and learned this year how to utilize our strengths and have grit to battle throughout our season."

Calallen coach Ashley Pettus on the 2023 squad: "I look at our season in different ‘seasons.’ We have summer work, pre-season, district and then playoff season. I love an early success, but I think what I love about this time of year is seeing the experience play in from the time the ‘new team’ is formed and what trials and tribulations they have worked through to get them where they need to be when they need to be there. The growth is my favorite part. It's always a great day to be a Calallen Wildcat, and I'm so proud to be their coach!"
