High school soccer report: Austin-area teams claim important midweek wins

The American-Statesman's midweek high school soccer report for the Austin area:

Boys

Georgetown 3, Hendrickson 1: Martin Valdes continued a season-long scoring binge with two goals and an assist and Chris Mashburn also scored for the Eagles. Christian Vargas and Benni Ponce had assists for Georgetown.

Round Rock 2, Vandegrift 1: The Dragons have vaulted themselves into the playoff conversation with four straight wins. Santiago Irizarry and Nuhan Mahmud tallied Round Rock’s goals off assists from Brody Box and Taiki Fukushima. Emmy Aranda scored for the Vipers.

Westlake 2, Dripping Springs 1: William Fagerberg paced the Chaps with a brace, which included the game-winner off a free kick from 30 yards out. Simon Katz had an assist on Fagerberg’s first goal.

Lake Travis 2, Anderson 1: The Cavs have stormed back into the playoff race thanks to a solid three weeks. Ayden Sadat’s header off Ryan Dilworth’s corner kick and Griffin Donnelly's header off Owen Pryor’s corner pushed Lake Travis by the Trojans.

LASA 1, McCallum 0: The Raptors took full control of District 24-5A thanks to Yohannes Heineman’s goal and Marco Vidal’s clean sheet.

Rouse 1, Lockhart 0: The Raiders clinched a playoff berth out of District 25-5A behind Elyan Bahena’s goal off a pass from Austin Bint and Grant Simmons’ shutout.

Northeast 2, Eastside 1: Roger Amador’s goal and assist, Jose Aza Juarez’s goal and Augustine Bitomwa’s assist led the Raiders to a playoff-clinching win in District 24-5A. Bartolo Sánchez had the Panthers’ goal.

Weiss 1, Copperas Cove 0: The Wolves remained in first place in District 12-6A behind Eli Walkup’s score on a pass from Justin Abarca. Thomas Kasanezky had the clean sheet in goal.

Bowie 1, Johnson 1: The Bulldogs are still undefeated after a draw with the Jaguars. Chase Benavides scored off an assist from Rowen Wells for Bowie.

Pflugerville 3, East View 2: The Panthers boosted their playoff hopes as Salah Moudni had a brace and Joel Vergara also scored in a key District 23-5A win. Luis Martinez had two assists and Nico Martinez provided the other assist for Pflugerville. Julian Bariga tallied both of the Patriots’ goals off passes from Joaquin Lumbreras and Damian Cantu.

Vista Ridge 5, Stony Point 3: Lucas Henriques’ brace, Arthurs Santos’ goal and assist and scores from J Mossholder and Morgan Warren paced the Rangers. Omar Erwa, Will Payton, Sebastian Landes and Chet Krushefski also had assists for Vista Ridge, which is in second place in District 25-6A.

Connally 5, Bastrop 1: Lawrence Doe and Orlando Frias both scored two goals and Aaron Olalde found the net for the Cougars, who are one win away from clinching the District 23-5A title.

Girls

Johnson 3, Bowie 1: Annie Rocha tallied a goal and assist and London Lakos and Lilley Christenson both scored to lead the Jaguars in a key win for playoff hopes. Emiree Favors also had an assist for Johnson.

Westlake 2, Dripping Springs 1: AJ Carlson’s goal and assist and Carter Utkov’s score paced the Chaps.

Anderson 3, Lake Travis 1: Coach Emily Horvath’s Trojans stormed back into the race for first place in District 26-6A as Neve Chachanashvili, Gracie Huff and Abbey Ford scored in the victory.

Georgetown 1, Hendrickson 0: In a battle for first place in District 23-5A, Eagles freshman Libby Benson scored the only goal on an assist by Dennie Decker as Georgetown improved to 10-0-1 in district while the Hawks fell into second place at 9-1-1. Eagle goalkeeper Neliaj Deleon had the shutout.

Cedar Ridge 4, Manor 0: Lorena Jaimes scored twice while Gabrielle Kesller and Grabby Riccardo added a goal each as the Raiders blanked Manor in District 25-6A action.

Round Rock 2, Vandegrift 1: In a battle of playoff contenders, Carly Sullivan and Kaiya Bullock had a goal and goalkeeper Addie Neuman preserved the win as the Dragons edged the Vipers. Brooke Cansler scored the Vandegrift goal on an assist by Eva Pensamiento

Westwood 2, McNeil 0: Team co-captain and goalkeeper Sam Walker notched her seventh shutout of the season while co-captain Kate Cooper and sophomore standout Mia Wiele each scored a goal for the Warriors.

Cedar Park 6 Hays 0: Jemma Hart notched her seventh district shutout in goal as the Timberwolves blasted Hays. Abbie Hall led the Cedar Park offense with two goals, while the Timberwolves also got goals from Meredith Klotz, Sienna Fleniken, Brooke Pack and Vienna Tran.

Leander 1, Glenn 1: The defensive-minded Grizzlies held the state-ranked Lions to a single goal. Leander, whose goal came from Kylie Bernal, still leads District 25-5A.

Rouse 9, Lockhart 0: The Raiders held on to third place in District 25-5A with a dominating win over Lockhart.

Burnet 6, Jarrell 0: Amelia Griffin led Burnet with four goals while Brook Oliva had two goals and three assists. Reagan Shipley, Kaycie Banton, Savannah Griffin each had an assist. Burnet goalkeeper Juliet Morales and defenders Regan Shipley, Mari Sanchez, Emily Wagner, Adriana Briggs, Kodi Opperman, and Maria Reyes held the shutout.

Cedar Creek 2, Elgin 0: The Cedar Creek Eagles moved a step closer to playoffs with a crucial 2-0 win over Elgin , the team that is vying with them for the final district playoff spot.

Connally 3, Bastrop 2: Connally’s win kept alive Cougar hopes for a playoff spot as District 23-5A winds down regular season.

Navarro 2, LBJ 0: The Vikings won their fourth district match with a shutout of the Jaguars.

McCallum 5 Eastside 0: The Knights remained two points behind LASA in the district standings. The Knights are 11-1-1 while LASA is 11-0-3

LASA 7, Northeast 0: The Raptors retained their two-point lead in 24-5A by blanking the Raiders.

Stony Point 2, Vista Ridge 1: The Tigers held on to a tie for fourth place in 25-6A with a win over third place Vista Ridge. Stony Point and Vandegrift are tied for fourth.
