High school soccer: District title, playoff races take shape as season hits home stretch

District soccer action continues across the Austin area for local schools with title and playoff races starting to take shape. District schedules are deep in the second half of play with teams meeting for the second time. The first round of the playoffs is officially less than a month away.

Boys

Round Rock 3, Manor 0: The Dragons won their third straight thanks to Cole Chuchmach’s shutout and goals from Brody Box, Logan Fossett and Diego De La Mano. Nuhan Mahmud had two assists, with Connor Gritzmacher providing the other.

Glenn 4, Hays 0: Tito Don Juan’s brace, John Gomez’s goal and assist and Cesar Vasquez Acevedo’s goal led the Grizzlies, who are still undefeated on the year. Keller Marchant recorded the clean sheet in goal, with Bodie Cheevers and Andrew Stevenson providing assists.

Vandegrift 3, McNeil 0: Luke Hawley, Lars Spinetta and Yandel Andrade tallied goals, James Hehman had two assists and Charlie Reed produced the shutout to keep the Vipers atop District 25-6A.

Pflugerville 4, Hendrickson 2: Luis Martinez’s two goals and an assist, Salah Moudni’s goal and assist and Nico Martinez’s two assists paced the Panthers in a key District 23-5A win. Roberto Jaramillo also scored for Pflugerville. One of Nico Martinez’s assists was to his brother, Luis Martinez.

Westlake 2, Anderson 0: Izel Gonzalez and Christian Mezas found the net thanks to two assists from William Fagerberg and Mack Elliott had the clean sheet in goal to lead the Chaps. Westlake as won five straight and has four straight shutouts.

Georgetown 3, Elgin 0: Micah Vogler, Josh Lu and Martin Valdes scored and Juanjose Serrano had the shutout for the Eagles. Valdes and Andrew Cung produced assists. Serrano now has eight clean sheets on the year.

Rouse 4, Lehman 1: Connor Courville, Foster Snell, Gavin Wilkie and Jospeh Reyes had the Raiders’ goals as they took a big step towards finishing second in District 25-5A. Foster Snell and Nathan Shaw had assists.

Stony Point 5, Cedar Ridge 2: Alexis Salgado’s brace led the Tigers, with Colton Lee, Fabio Urrego and Zeferino Jacinto Ramirez also providing goals.

Weiss 3, Temple 0: Justin Abarca, Cody Urquiza, and Dylan Bergvall scored, Sergio Gomez had two assists and Juleeanh Ontiveros recorded a clean sheet as the Wolves stayed atop District 12-6A.

LASA 4, LBJ 1: Kiran Kini’s had a goal and assist, Owen Rooff, Ishan Bhavsar and Bouna Sakho all scored and Juan Pizano provided two assists to keep the Raptors atop District 24-5A.

McCallum 5, Northeast 0: Austin Gourrier’s hat trick, goals from Ohad Klein and Gus Ehlers and Tucker Martinson’s two assists led the Knights, who are a game behind LASA in the District 24-5A standings. Summit Flowers provided another shutout in goal.

Westwood 1, Vista Ridge 0: Caleb Fagan scored off a pass from Braden Wilson and Anvith Maddipoti had the clean sheet for the Warriors, who kept their playoff hopes alive with the win.

Connally 8, Cedar Creek 0: Orlando Frias recorded a hat trick and Lawrence Doe, Alex Nunez, Noe Molina and Angel Garduno all scored for the Cougars. Roger Ruiz recorded the shutout.

Akins 2, Dripping Springs 1: Dylan Zahn scored for the Tigers in the loss.

East View 0, Bastrop 0: Adrian Leonides and Edwin Morales combined for the shutout for the Patriots.

Del Valle 0, Lake Travis 0: Daniel Ponce posted the clean sheet for the Cardinals and Diego Cancino posted the shutout for the Cavs in the draw.

Girls

Georgetown 5, Elgin 0: Aubrey Heath and Libby Benson scored two goals each and Amy Fangman added a goal in the Eagles win. Emmie Benson, Dennie Decker, Emma Moore and Ava Perry had an assist each, while Neliaj DeLeon and Emilie Novosad combined for a shutout in the goal.

Leander 2 Liberty Hill 1: State-ranked Leander edged powerful Liberty Hill on goals by Teagan Wahle and Cori Harper. Wahle assisted on Harper’s goal. Leander out shot Liberty Hill 17-5. Goalie saves were recorded by Alyse Kavanaugh and Jovie Mise.

Cedar Park 7, Lockhart 0: Sofia Peters’ hat trick and assist led the Timberwolves. Vienna Tran added two goals, while Meredith Koltz and Kristi Tabor had a goal each. Klotz finished with two assists, both Frances Tran and Vienna Tran had an assist each as did Lily Rangel.

Lake Travis 4, Del Valle 0: Colette Whitsitt notched her fourth shutout of the season, while Avery Lang scored twice and Brecklyn Ferrell and Haley Mitchell added goals as Lake Travis moved into first place in 26-6A.

Vandegrift 3 McNeil 1: Eva Pensamiento notched all three goals in the Vipers with assists from Nala Macherey and Elena Welch. Kyla Jones and Kali Mendoza combined for the goalkeeping.

Westlake 3 Anderson 1: AJ Carlson scored twice, Georgia Millikin added a goal, Carter Utkov notched an assist and goalkeeper Sophia Martin had 11 saves as the Chaps beat Anderson.

Johnson 1, Austin High 1: Jadyn Jaeger’s free-kick goal in the second half gave the Jaguars a draw.

Westwood 1, Vista Ridge 1: In a battle of playoff contenders, the match finished in a draw as Kylie Denton scored for the Warriors and Julia Ramsey found the net for the Rangers. Westwood has a nine-game undefeated streak.

District 24-5A managed to have draws among the top four teams as LASA defeated McCallum 1-0 while Ann Richards played to a 0-0 draw with Eastside. Crockett blanked Travis 3-0.

Round Rock 10 Manor 0: The state-ranked Dragons remained unbeaten in district play with a one-sided 10-0 win over the Manor Mustangs.

Burnet 9, Florence 1: Burnet improved to 8-0-0 in district with a 9-1 win over Florence. Amelia Griffin led the Lady Dawgs with a three-goal hat trick and an assist. Brook Oliva, Kaycie Banton and Julie Suazo scored two goal each. Oliva had 3 assists while both Banton and Taylor Petty had 2 assists. Reagan Shipley added an assist.

Giddings 11, Caldwell 0: Giddings is 9-0 in district and the TGCA Class 4A second-ranked Buffaloes have outscored district competition 71-0. On the season, Giddings is 14-0-3 with a 100-4 scoring advantage.

Wimberley 2 Boerne 2: The Texas improved to 9-4-3 on the season and 3-1-1 in district by playing Boerne to a 2-2 tie. Boerne is 13-1-2 on the season.
