High school soccer: District races approaching the midpoint

District soccer action continues across the Austin area for local UIL and TAPPS schools with a handful of teams still undefeated and the district schedules about to hit the halfway mark.

Boys

(Friday and Thursday results)

Westlake 4, Akins 0: William Fagerberg tallied two goals, Christian Mezas had two assists and Tobin Nguyen and Mack Elliott combined for a clean sheet to pace the Chaps. Logan Thomson and Sebastian Hiza also found the net, with Izel Gonzalez and Simon Katz also producing assists.

LASA 7, Navarro 0: Yohannes Heineman had a brace and an assist and Bouna Sakho,Ishan Bhavsar, Angel Ramirez, Owen Rooff and Alex Marintzer all found the net for the Raptors. Yared McKaughan added two assists, with Owen Rooff and Carson Gould each recording one.

McCallum 3, Travis 0: Gus Ehlers scored twice for the second straight match and Graham Randle found the net for the Knights. Speight Twohey and Caleb Gonzalez each had an assist.

Northeast 2, Crockett 1: Augustine Bitomwa and Luis Carlos Vargas found the net for the Raiders in a crucial District 24-5A win.

Vandegrift 1, Westwood 1: Yandel Andrade finished a pass from Luke Hawley for the Vipers and Jack Cox scored on an assist from Beau Bryant as the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

Vista Ridge 4, Round Rock 0: Cyrus Keah, J Mossholder, Omar Erwa and Yaseen Salman scored goals and Chet Krushefski, Will Payton, Arthur Santos and Salman had assists to lead the Rangers to a massive District 25-6A win. Abijay Thunga recorded the shutout.

Bowie 4, Del Valle 2: Garrett Herb and Griffin Crawley both had a goal and an assist to pace the Bulldogs and keep them undefeated. Rowen Wells and Ben Tillisch also had goals, with Karsten Albrecht and Jake Ciccarello providing additional assists. Michael Tapia and Octavio Estrada found the net for the Cardinals.

Connally 2, Hendrickson 1: Joshua Montero and Shehram Hayatullah produced goals to lead the Cougars to a win in a battle of Pflugerville ISD schools. Jacob Youngkin scored off a pass from Ivan Chavez for the Hawks.

Stony Point 3, Manor 0: Micah Marquez, Salahadin El-Azzami and Emmanuel Diaz tallied goals, Zeferino Jacinto Ramírez recorded two assists and Andrew Lopez and Daniel Sawyer combined for the clean sheet to lead the Tigers.

Pflugerville 4, Elgin 0: Salah Moudni's brace and goals from Carlos Cruz and Luis Martinez pushed the Panthers to a key District 23-5A win. Alex Cuzquen, Joel Vergara Martinez and Roberto Jaramillo provided the assists, while Juan Denova and Nico Marra combined for the shutout in goal.

Georgetown 2, East View 2: Martin Valdes’ brace led the Eagles and Damian Cantu’s goal and assist paced the Patriots as the Battle of Georgetown ended in a draw. Javier Torres’ goal off a pass from Serjio Maldonado marked East View’s other score. Kash Anderson provided an assist on one of Valdes’ goals.

Glenn 1, Rouse 0: The Grizzlies stayed undefeated thanks to Killian Murphy's goal and Keller Marchant's shutout.

Girls

Leander 2, Cedar Park 1: In the battle of unbeaten state-ranked Class 5A teams, Leander battled past Cedar Park on goals by Sadie Guzman and Kensley Seaman Smith with assists by Kylie Bernal and Alicia Aguinaga. Alyse Kavanaugh made eight saves in goal for the Lions.

Westwood 2, Vandegrift 1: Westwood rallied from behind as Mia Wiele assisted on both goals, one by Kaleia Coughlin and the second by Paula Marza. Sam Walker had another outstanding performance in goal for the Warriors for their sixth straight win. Nala Macherey scored for the Vipers on an assist by Sierra Ache while freshman Kyla Jones had a tremendous match.

Lake Travis 4, Johnson 2: Cavaliers midfielder Jazmyn Diaz and standout striker Amelia Clark scored two goals each. Clark has 14 goals on the season. Assists by: Breckyn Ferrell, Avery Newman, Maya Ramirez, and Banin Patterson. Cavs goalkeeper Colette Whitsitt made a spectacular diving save from a free kick to preserve the win. Outside back Haley Mitchell was awarded Woman of the Match.

Georgetown 6, East View 0: Emie Benson and Finley Newell had two goals each and Libby Benson and Ambrey Heath managed a goal apiece for the Eagles. Goalkeepers Neliaj Deleon and Emilie Novosad combined for the shutout.

Ann Richards 3, Northeast 0: Isabella Farias netted three goals to lead Ann Richards to the win. Becky Madrid added an assist for the Stars.

St. Michael’s 3, Hyde Park 0: Lauren Hill had a three-goal hat trick to lead St. Michael’s Academy. Hill has 37 goals on the season.

Wimberley 3, Burnet 3: In a non-district friendly, the Texans took a 3-0 led and the Bulldogs battled back to end the match in a 3-3 draw. Burnet’s Amelia Griffin scored all three Bulldogs goals. Griffin then had a hat trick plus two — or five goals — as Burnet beat Lago Vista 7-0. Kaycie Banton and Brook Oliva each added a goal.

Scores: In Class 6A, unbeaten and state top 10 ranked Round Rock beat Vista Ridge 4-1, Stony Point defeated Manor 5-1, Cedar Ridge blanked McNeil 1-0. In other 26-6A action, Westlake shutout Akins 7-0, Anderson and Austin High played to a 1-1 draw and Bowie crushed Del Valle 6-2. Elsewhere, Hutto beat Temple 3-1 and Weiss blanked Bryan 4-0. In Class 5A, Liberty Hill beat Hays 4-0 and Rouse blanked Glenn 5-0.
