HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Upper Cape Tech's Taysia Lopes has unforgettable day

Only one word can accurately describe Tuesday's softball game between Mashpee and Upper Cape Tech.

Wild.

And Upper Cape Tech's Taysia Lopes had an unforgettable performance.

Lopes' Rams had to rally back from a 16-6 deficit in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lopes belted a two-run, walk-off home run over the left-field fence to lead Upper Cape Tech to the 19-18 victory.

Earlier in the day, Lopes belted a grand slam and finished with eight RBIs and four runs scored. Emma King had an RBI double to set up Lopes walk-off home run and turned a key double play in the top of the seventh inning. Lopes also earned the win on the mound while striking out 12 batters.

Cami Valley chipped in two hits and three RBIs in the win. Jaelyn Harraden (center field) and King (shortstop) played well defensively.

In the loss, Jordan Eagan (five runs, three RBIs) and Sophia Campbell (two RBIs) both had four-hit days. Jayden Bryant went 3-for-3 and scored five runs.

Softball 

Monomoy 6, Wareham 4: The Sharks improve to 9-7.

Baseball 

Bourne 12, Wareham 0: Damon White and Aiden Elmore combined on two-hitter for the Canalmen, who clinched a state-tournament spot with the win. Luca Finton broke the game open with a bases-loaded double in the second inning.

St. John Paul II 2, West Bridgewater 1: Sophomore Tyler Ross pitched a gem (seven innings, 13 strikeouts, four hits, no walks) to lead the Lions. Brady Ryan and Brady Meyer each had one RBI. Logan Our had a hit and two runs scored.

Mashpee 6, Upper Cape Tech 5: Tyler Kutil and Keirnan Ballard each had RBI hits for the Rams (11-5) in the loss. Asher Graff, Patrick O'Rourke and Harrison Gargan each had hits.

Fairhaven 18, Nantucket 0: The Whalers fall to 1-12.

Girls Lacrosse

Martha's Vineyard 14, Falmouth Academy 3: Willow Wakefield made 11 saves in the loss for Falmouth Academy (1-7), while Lexi Kalkanis, Faye McGuire and Carly Coggins scored one goal apiece.

Sandwich 10, Cape Cod Academy 3: Quinn Anderson (three goals), Avery Cobban (two goals, assist) and Emma MacPherson (two goals, assist) all had three-point days for the Blue Knights (14-2). Ryann Cobban, Sophia Visceglio and Kohlbie Darmon each chipped in one goal. Tilly Crosby (goal, assist) and Quinn Powers (two goals) scored for CCA in the loss while Flynn Kayajan made 12 saves.

Nantucket 10, Falmouth 7: The Whalers improve to 12-3 while Falmouth falls to 6-7.

Dennis-Yarmouth 10, Sturgis East 2: The Dolphins (2-13) snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Monomoy 17, Sturgis West 11: The Sharks improve to 13-3.

Barnstable 11, Nauset 10: Cecelia Bisbois (four goals, assist) scored the winning goal for the Red Hawks with four seconds remaining off a feed from Shelby Locascio (three goals, two assists). Chloe Egan (two assists) and Grace Bunnel (assist) had two-goal games, while Morgan Mueller made 10 saves. Lindsay Jones, Annie Kennedy, Annabelle Kane, Lily Pawsey, Sam Desrocher and Margaret Maki were key in the win. The game was played in honor of Sam Needham, a 2022 Barnstable High graduate who was killed in a motorcycle crash last August.

Boys Lacrosse

Falmouth 9, Nantucket 7: The Clippers improve to 12-4 while the Whalers fall to 11-5.

Cohasset 10, Sandwich 4: The Blue Knights lost to No. 1 Cohasset in a battle of the two top-ranked teams in the Div. 4 power rankings. Connor Stack was 15-for-16 on faceoffs and Shane Corcoran made 22 saves for Sandwich. Brady Carroll had a goal and two assists. Dan Oman, Cole Rodgers and Harry Delman each scored one goal.

Martha’s Vineyard 12, Falmouth Academy 2: The Vineyarders improve to 9-5 while the Mariners fall to 2-9.

Nauset 18, Barnstable 9: Cooper McIntire led the way on offense for the Warriors with six goals, and three assists in the win. Andrew Berardi (hat trick), Quinn Mucha (goal, three asissts), Peyton Kender (three goals, three assists), Brendan Peno (goal, assist), Riley Meehan, Joey Berardi, and Ryder Holm (goal each), and Logan Poulin (goal, 27/31 faceoffs) contributed on offense for Nauset (12-3). Barnstable falls to 2-13.

Boys Tennis 

Apponequet 5, Bourne 0: The Canalmen fall to 8-9.

St. John Paul II 4, Sturgis 1: The Lions defeated Sturgis.

Girls Tennis

Apponequet 5, Bourne 0: The Canalwomen (4-11) dropped the South Coast Conference game.

Mashpee 4, Rising Tide 1: Mariele Henley (first) and Piper Milde (second) won singles matches for the Falcons, while Hannah Rogers/Jamie Hughes (first) and Grace Dion/Alina Doolan (second) took the doubles matches.

Girls Track & Field 

Dennis-Yarmouth 94, Nauset 42: The Warriors finish the regular season at 6-1.

Boys Track & Field

Nauset 71, Dennis-Yarmouth 64: The Warriors (7-0) finish the spring as the undefeated league champions.
