HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: St. John Paul II boys golf stays undefeated with milestone win

For the first time in program history, three golfers on the St. John Paul II boys golf team finished even or under par in a single match, in the Lions 234-260 win over Cape Cod Academy. The Lions had their fourth consecutive win to start the season. Tim Adams shot a two under 34 to lead the Lions (4-0), Sam Scioletti also finished one under par (35), and Jack Carstensen shot a 36 to finish even in the event held at Oyster Harbors Club.

The loss drops the Seahawks record to 1-3. Ben Catalano, Oliver Smith and Olivia Jatczak had the lowest scores (41s) for Cape Cod Academy.

Boys Golf

Bourne 258, Apponequet 261: The Canalmen improve to 3-1.

Nauset 249, Falmouth 252: The Warriors improve to 3-1 on the season after narrowly beating Falmouth (1-2). Jack Martin's 39 was the lowest score for the Warriors, and Max St Aubin finished with a 40.

Upper Cape 8, Westport 1: The Rams, led by Matt Nawoichik's 38, improve to 4-1 after beating Westport at Acoaxet Club. Asher Graff shot a 39, and Zephyn Johnson shot a 45 for the next two lowest finishes.

Nantucket 256, Rising Tide 286: The Whalers are now 3-1 on the season.

Football

Mashpee 34, Nantucket 7: Dominic Matteodo finished with two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown to lead the Falcons (1-1) to the week two victory over the Whalers (0-2). Makai Hue added a rushing touchdown in the win. Charlie Lyons and Mason Zylinski each had two sacks for Mashpee. Rashawn Wray scored the Whalers only touchdown, off a pass from Carlos Aguilar.

Marlborough 35, Falmouth 0: The Clippers drop to 0-2 following the loss.

Cardinal Spellman 50, Martha’s Vineyard 7: The Vineyarders (1-1) lost their first game of the season.

Girls Volleyball

Nantucket 3, Falmouth 0: The Whalers swept the Clippers (25-18, 25-19, 25-22), to improve to 4-1 behind Chloe Marrero's 18 kills, and Yahely del Rosario Gomez's 28 assists. Viktoria Todorova had 23 digs. Christina Femino had 12 assists, an ace, and a kill to lead the Clippers (3-1). Delia Roulston also added three aces, and nine digs.

Westborough 3, Barnstable 2: Molly Gleason had a double-double (11 kills, 14 digs) to lead the Red Hawks (3-1) in the narrow five-set loss (27-25, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22, 9-15). Molly Fredo (14 kills), and Charlotte Sullivan (13 kills) both had big nights, and Sadie Wellbeloved had a season high 40 assists.

Sandwich 3, Randolph 0: The Blue Knights swept Randolph (25-16, 25-12, 25-8), to improve to 1-2. Mia Mulcahy had 19 assists, and Alanna Schreibeis had seven kills to lead the way.

Girls Soccer

Nauset 6, St. John Paul II 0: The Warriors improve to 2-1 following the win over the Lions (0-2). Olivia Avellar starred for Nauset, scoring four goals herself, and assisting the only two she didn't score. Avellar's first two goals were scored off of assists from Caroline Kennard, who also had a goal herself. Caroline Bothfeld was the Warriors other goal scorer. Haley Jackson recorded her first clean sheet in goal.

Monomoy 6, Cape Cod Academy 0: Karlie Monteiro and Karah Deveau each scored twice to lead the Sharks (3-0) to the win over the Seahawks (1-2). Rylie Gillis and Riley Hesse were the other two goal scorers in the win, and Fiona Moore and Mia Salzano played well defensively. Lili Shanahan and Flynn Kayajan combined to make 19 saves.

Nantucket 4, Sturgis East 0: Chelsea Gross and Gianna Quinn each had a brace to lead the Whalers (3-1) to the win over the Storm (0-1). Freshman goalkeeper Madden Myers kept the clean sheet in goal.

Archbishop Williams 3, Martha's Vineyard 2: The Vineyarders (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season. Elena Giordano had a goal and an assist to lead the way, and Emily Coogan scored the other Martha's Vineyard goal. Jane Coogan also recorded an assist.

Sturgis West 3, Rising Tide 0: Mary Kudarauskis scored twice to lead the Navigators (2-0) to the win. Sophia Lasnicki had a goal and an assist in the win, and both Avery Haines and Ellie Burns added an assist.

Boys Soccer

Nantucket 1, Sturgis East 1: The Whalers (1-1-1) and the Storm (1-1-1) split the points. Edin Vasquez scored off a pass from José Diaz for the Whalers, and Niko Haye found Brady Sheehan for the Storm's lone goal.

Monomoy 6, Cape Cod Academy 1: The win takes the Sharks' record to 3-1. The Seahawks drop to 1-2.

Field Hockey

St. John Paul II 1, Bishop Stang 0: After being tied at zero through three quarters, Kaylee Anthony found the back of the net after being set up by Avery Crapo with under eight minutes left in the game to give the Lions (3-1) the win.

Middleboro 2, Mashpee 0: Ayesha Shafi made 14 saves for the Falcons (1-3).

Falmouth 1, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Clippers (1-1-1) and the Dolphins (2-1-1) ended in a tie.

Sandwich 8, East Bridgewater 0: The Blue Knights (3-0-0) remain unbeaten on the season with the shutout win.
