BASEBALL

Division II

Johnston 3, Barrington 1

Dylan Guernon went the distance on a 3-hitter as the Panthers handled the Eagles. Guernon needed only 62 pitches to complete the game and retired 18 of the last 19 Eagles he faced. All the hits he allowed came in the first inning.  He only walked one Eagle and struck out six. The Panthers (7-4) scored their runs in the fourth – two on a double by Davian Nunez and one on a Logan Martins single. Gabe Tanous hit a leadoff home run for Barrington (7-3) while losing pitcher Jack Lawson struck out 11 and walked only one.

Narragansett 7, Burrillville 0

The Mariners' Aidan Clancey (4 innings) and Jackson Hohl (3 innings) combined for the shutout on the mound. Teammates Vito Paglia and Zach Previte had two hits apiece. Jordan Furtado contributed 2 hits for the Broncos. Narragansett improves to 6-6 with the victory while Burrillville falls to 3-9.

Westerly 7, East Greenwich 1

Nick Tria was 2-3 and drove in 2 runs, Tom Fiore was 2-3 with an RBI and Jack Tenuta scored 3 runs in the Bulldogs victory. Michael Poole pitched 5 innings and struck out 6 to earn the win. For the Avengers, Cade Thomas hit a solo home run and Anders Nelson pitched 5 innings, striking out 3 and walking 5 in the loss.

Prout 6, Chariho 0

Ryan Barrett was 2-4 with 2 RBI and Derek Gesmondi went 2-3 as the Crusaders got some hits and took advantage of some errors to plate 5 runs in the sixth inning. Gavin McCoy went the distance with an efficient 5-hit outing striking out 6. For Chariho, Adam Carpenter pitched into the 6th inning before being relieved by Andrew Smith, giving up 5 runs, only 1 earned, while striking out 7 and letting up 4 hits. Offense was led by Darren Clarke with 2 hits in the loss.

Middletown 5, Woonsocket 0

Evan Levasseur starred on the mound and at the plate as the Islanders blanked the Villa Novans, 5-0. Levasseur came up one out shy of a complete game, firing 6 2/3 strong innings and striking out 13. He helped his own cause with a 3-for-4 day at bat, scoring two runs and driving in two.

Division III

Rogers 5, Times2/PC/St. Pats 2

Nixon Brownell drove in two runs and teammates Benjamin Borgueta and Conor Donahue each drove in runs to power the Vikings past the Times2 co-op. On the mound Robert Dufault threw a complete game, struck out 14 and allowed just 2 hits and no earned runs in the victory.

North Smithfield 3, PCD 2

The Northmen's bats came alive late and backed by the pitching of Tyler Albino, came away with a win over PCD in extra innings. Held scoreless through six innings by M. Frederick, who ended up the tough luck loser, North Smithfield's Wyatt Letizia, Nathan Dec and Samuel Garrepy each recorded RBIs in the comeback.

Scituate/Rocky Hill 14, Classical 0

The Spartans (6-3) scored a pair of runs in the first to take an early lead but exploded for 11 more in the final two innings to win this one going away. Kaiden Durand led the offense, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs, Drake Dumont also drove in a pair, and Travis Howman struck out 11 over 6 innings for the win. With the loss, the Purple fall to 5-4.

Division I

Pilgrim 3, Coventry 1

Genna Damato was 2-3 with 2 RBIs, Audra McDonnel singled home a run and Madison Tuirok was 2-3 with a pair of stolen bases to lead the Patriots past the Oakers in this Div. I showdown. In the circle, Gretchen Dombeck scattered 5 hits over 7 innings to earn the win. Mary McGovern led the Oakers, going 2-3, and Izzy Dyle drove in Coventry's lone run.

Prout 6, Cumberland 4

Giselle Jeffrey turned in solid outing, both on the hill and at the plate, as Prout slipped past Cumberland. Jeffrey also helped her own cause with a pair of hits and 2 RBI. For the Clippers, Allie Casavant banged out three hits and Lacie Grenier recorded a pair of hits in the loss.

La Salle 10, Cranston West 4

Pitcher Hailey Vigneau earned the win for the Rams, allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned, over seven innings. She struck out 12 batters and walked three. Cranston West’s Mia Crudale pitched five innings and gave up eight runs, seven earned, and struck out three Rams. Phoenyx Silva and Lily Roumelis drove in three runs each for La Salle. Sofia Marella had three runs batted in for the Falcons.

Smithfield 7, North Kingstown 4

Lily Riggin drove in 3 runs to pace the Sentinels offense, Skyla Oliveira and Crystal Cacador each collected a pair of hits, with Oliveira hitting an inside-the-park home run. In the circle, Maddie Bose and Cacador combined for 9 strikeouts in the victory. For the Skippers, Mia D'Andrea was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and an inside-the-park home run.

St. Raphael 2, Moses Brown 1

The game was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Sadie Lallier singled to knock in the winning run. The pitching for both teams was outstanding as St. Raphael’s Ella Taylor threw five shutout innings and Emma Martin gave up only one run in three innings. For Moses Brown, Anna Costello pitched 7.2 innings and surrendered just the two runs.  Sophie Roman had two hits and an RBI for St. Raphael and Finley Walsh had three hits for Moses Brown.

Division II

Johnston 8, Middletown 1

Arianna Velasquez smacked a two-run double, walked and scored a run, in leading the Panthers over the Islanders. Haley Boudreau pitched a three-hitter, striking out 16, and also helped her own cause with a hit and a run scored. Ella Bolano was 2-for-3 for Middletown and scored the Islanders' only run.

LNP 7, Scituate 2

Mariana Xavier was 3-for-4, including a homer and 2 RBI, and Makenna Heon and Madilyn Sheehan in two runs each as NP/Lincoln rolled to a 7-2 win. Kayla-J Macchio pitched a complete game for NP.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division I

Portsmouth 9, Mount St. Charles 8

Will Howard scored the game-winner with 6 seconds left to lift the Patriots (3-6) over the Mounties in a heavily penalized contest. Howard had 3 goals in the victory, as did teammates Robert Mairs, Indy Pacheco and Oliver MelansonJack Colna had 12 saves on 19 shots on goal. For Mount (2-7), Matthew Krayer had 4 goals and an assist and Noah Jordan had 10 saves on 18 shots.

Division II

Pilgrim 12, South Kingstown 11

Braxton Bragg and Ryan Barlow carried the Patriots’ offense, but goalie Chris Schifino made the play of the game with a save as the buzzer sounded that sealed the 12-11 win over the Rebels. Bragg was the focal point of the Pilgrim offensive attack, scoring six goals to go with two assists. Barlow, his partner in crime, came up with two goals and two assists. Brett Taylor also had two goals. The scoring helped put the Patriots (7-3 D-II) up one with under one minute left, but South Kingstown had one final chance to send the game to OT. The Rebels got a clean look just before the buzzer, but Schifino was there to make the play. Hampton Hubbard did most of the offensive damage for South Kingstown (6-4 D-II), scoring four goals. Derek Cook and Mason Thorn both added two.

Division II

Prout 10, Middletown 4

Mason Keramidas scored 3 goals and 4 assists while going 8-10 on faceoffs for the Crusaders (7-2). Cameron De Castro scored 2 goals and 2 assists and Teddy LeBlanc recorded 18 saves in the win. For the Islanders (2-7) Griffin Kleinknecht scored 2 goals in the loss.

Cumberland 15, Chariho 0

The Clippers broke open a close game with a strong second half and rolled to victory over the Chargers. Leading the attack for Cumberland were Sean Taylor had 5 goals and 2 assists, Blake Huard had 3 goals and 2 assists and Sam Asermely had a pair of goals and 4 assists.

Division IV

Scituate 9, Rogers 3

Grant Bailey led the Spartans with 5 goals and 2 assists, and Jake Mahoney added a pair of goals and an assist. For the Vikings, David Rivera had 2 goals and one assist and Max Rivera had 1 goal in the loss.

North Providence 3, Classical 2

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division I

La Salle 19, South Kingstown 8

Addison Towey scored a game-high 5 goals, with 1 assist, Maddi Goodwin recorded 4 goals and 4 assists and Lily Peters had 3 goals and 3 assists, helping the Rams to an 8-2 record in league play. For the Rebels (2-7), Finley Carr and Mia Moffit each had 2 goals and 1 assist in the loss.

Smithfield 15, Cranston West 7

Smithfield outscored Cranston West in both halves, 8-4 and 7-3, to win handily. Smithfield was led by Annabelle Lally with 3 goals and an assist and Avery Areson with 2 goals and 2 assists. For Cranston West, Julia Levy, Zoe Bidamp and Sofia Nardelli had 2 goals apiece. Goalie Jada Stackhouse had 18 saves in the losing effort for the Falcons while Taylin Giguere had stopped 8 shots for the Sentinels.

Moses Brown 20, Prout 8

The Quakers raced out to a 12-4 halftime advantage and never looked back as they kept their unbeaten streak intact at 10-0. Lily Madeira had 4 goals and Vivian Stone, Grace MacLean and Maddie Chase each recorded 3 goals in the win. For the Crusaders (4-3),  Sylvia Mayo scored 4 goals and Ella Martin had 2 in the loss.

Portsmouth 11, Barrington 10 (OT)

Division III

PCD 8, Rogers 4

Eloise Wetherby led the Knights attack with 3 goals and 2 assists, and teammates Ellie Cordischi and Marguerite Cuzzone each netted a pair of goals in the win. For the Vikings, Julia Page scored 3 goals in the loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Barrington 5, Ponaganset/St. Raphael 2

Barrington's three doubles teams each captured victories without losing a game in the Eagles win over Ponaganset/St. Rays. The No. 1 doubles team of Bryce Kupperman and Gabe Anderson captured the deciding point.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division I

South Kingstown 3, Coventry 0

Luke Brock had 10 kills and Ben Wright had 4 kills and 6 aces in the Rebels' victory, 25-15, 26-24, 25-12.

Division II

East Providence 3, Woonsocket 0 

Jordan Rodrigues had 10 kills and 10 digs and Franklin Carela Lopez had 3 kills and 2 blocks in the victory, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20. For the Novans, G'ovani Collazo had 8 kills and 7 digs in the loss.

Cranston West 3, Barrington 0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23)

Division III

EWG 3, Hope 0

Ryan Raleigh posted 8 kills and Robert Zompa had 8 aces in the Scarlet Knights' sweep over the Blue Wave, (25-13, 25-18, 25-19). Emmanuel Bejaran and Juan Realpe combined for 7 kills for Hope in the loss.

Scituate/Prout 3, Portsmouth 2

Down 2-1 in sets, Scituate rallied to take the the final 2 sets and slipped past Portsmouth, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11. Leading the way for the Spartans was Mason Brown with 17 kills and teammate Porter Fisher who recorded 10 kills, 33 assists and 4 aces. For the Patriots, Jack Casey had 15 kills 5 blocks and 8 digs, Adam Banks had 17 digs and Jaylen Ivy recorded 9 kills, 4 blocks and 2 digs in the
