HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sandwich girls lacrosse and baseball teams win tourney championships

The Sandwich girls lacrosse team beat Scituate 13-6 for the Patriot Cup Championship on Friday. Quinn Anderson led the way with five goals and one assist, while Avery Cobban added two goals, and three assists. Kolbie Darmon and Abi Kinney each finished with two goals, while Elisabeth Stutzman (one goal, one assist), Paige Morrison (one goal), and Kyla Darmon (one assist) each contributed on offense for Sandwich (6-0).

The Sandwich baseball team beat Hanover 8-1 in the finals of the JL Murphy Tournament. The Blue Knights had 11 total hits, and five guys had two hits each. Matt Sullivan finished with three RBIs, while Connor Finn pitched six innings, allowed two hits and no earned runs for Sandwich (3-1).

Girls Lacrosse

Apponequet 15, Bourne 4: Taylor Simard scored all four goals for the Lady Canalmen (1-5). Cassidy Bonzagni had one assist to Simard, while Mia Lowden had seven saves in goal for Bourne.

Nauset 17, New Bedford 6: The Warriors (5-1) have won three straight behind six goals from Coral Punch, and two goals and four assists from Sienna Reeves. Julia Kipperman (four goals), Allie Higgins (two goals), Zoe Labdon (two goals), and Cate Miltimore (oen goal) all contributed on offense, while goalies Sophia Boucher and Norah Swanson split time in goal.

Falmouth Academy 13, Abington 7: The Mariners (1-3) won their first game of the season. Natalie Hurlbut (two draw controals) scored five goals, while Faye McGuire added four goals (one draw control) for Falmouth Academy. Mira Davis (one draw control) scored twice, while Susanna Lowell (three draw controls) and Lizzie Blauer each had a goal. Willow Wakefield had eight saves in goal, while Charlotte Silveira (one draw control) and Elise Casso played well on defense.

Boys Lacrosse

Apponequet 18, Bourne 7: The Canalmen (4-2) lost their first home game of the season. Charlie Seitz had three goals and one assist, while Ryan Haden and Ty Hawkes each had two goals for Bourne. Brett Lucier dished out three assists, and Max Beals had 10 saves in goal.

Billerica Memorial 17, Nauset 6: The Warriors (5-2) snapped a five-game win streak. Logan Poulin scored twice, while Joey Berardi, Ryder Holm, Michael Flynn and Riley Meehan each had one goal for Nauset.

Baseball

Nauset 4, Bristol Plymouth 0: The Warriors (6-1) have won five in a row as pitcher Chase Beach went the distance for the shutout and allowed three hits, and struck out 11. The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when Ryan O’Keefe broke it open with a single and drove in two runs for Nauset.

St. John Paul II 3, Abington 0: Tyler Ross led the Lions (3-2) on the mound as he pitched a complete game and allowed one hit, one run, and struck out 10. Colin Buckley was 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Max Ingraham had two RBIs and a double in the fifth inning for JPII.

Fairhaven 7, Bourne 2: The Canalmen (1-4) have dropped their last three games. Trevor Billard pitched 5.2 innings and allowed one earned run for Bourne.

Scituate 7, Falmouth 4: The Clippers (1-5) fell in the second round of the JL Murphy Tournament.

Girls Track and Field

The Dennis-Yarmouth girls track team traveled to North Andover and competed in the MSTCA Multi-Fest Invitational.

The girls competed in two relays and placed third in the Sprint Medley with a time of 4:32.76, which is a D-Y record. They also placed second in the 800 relays (100m-100m-200m-400m) with a time of 1:58.43.

The Dennis-Yarmouth girls track team traveled to Foxboro on Thursday to compete at the Warrior Invitational.

The girls placed first in three different relays: 4x100m (52.3), 4x400 (4:24.6) and the 4x800m.

The top individual athletes were Tiana Jacques in the long jump (15 feet 10inches), Kerri Clark in the 400m (63.2), Katie Popovich in the triple jump (31 feet 7inches), Ava Kvietok in the discus (3rd) and Siena Lauze in the javelin.

The relay teams consisted of Jacques, Kerri Clark, Lauze Sienna Ahern-Harding and Breanna Braham.
