HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Monomoy softball wins 14th straight with doubleheader wins

The Monomoy High softball pushed their win streak to 14 games taking both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Sharks (16-1) defeated Barnstable (3-14) in the first game 19-4. Lilly Furman went 4-for-5 (six RBIs, three runs), while Bella Bellefeuille was 3-for-5 (one double, one RBI, two runs) for the Monomoy offense. Lexi Wilson (four runs, four walks, one hit, one RBI), Kiley Mawn (one triple, two hits, two runs, two RBIs, two walks, Lexi Totten (one hit, two runs, one RBI, two walks), and Olivia Wragg (three RBIs, one hit, one RBI, two walks) all contributed for Monomoy. Kinsey Lister pitched five innings, scattered two hits, gave up four runs (three earned), walked four, and struck out 10 on the mound for the win. Annabella DiGiacomo and Madison Flynn each had one hit and one RBI for Barnstable.

Monomoy (17-1) defeated Sandwich (2-14) in game two 14-1 as Alana pitched five innings, scattered two hits, gave up one earned run, walked two, and struck out six. Lister went 4-for-4 (three runs, two RBIs), Mawn (one double, four RBIs), Bellefeuille (three runs, one RBI), and Kate Huse (four runs) each had three hits, and Leighton finished 2-for-3 (four RBIs, two runs) for Monomoy. CeCe Donovan (one run) and Mia Consalvi (one RBI) had the only hits for Sandwich.

St. John Paul II 31, Martha’s Vineyard 18: The drought is over as the Lions (1-12) picked up the first win of the season as they upset the Vineyarders (6-9-1) on the road.

Carver 23, Mashpee 1: The Falcons fall to 0-14.

Baseball

Bishop Stang 11, Nauset 7: The Warriors finished the regular season 14-6. Ethan Beer (two runs, one RBI), Evan Archer (one RBI), Chase Beach (two RBIs, two runs), Kieran Handville (one RBI), and Paul Alves (one RBI) each recorded a hit for Nauset.

St. John Paul II 9, Abington 5: The Lions (15-5) have won nine of their last 10 games. Henry Roy went 3-for-4 (four RBIs, one run), while Brian Mancinelli was 2-for-3 (one RBI, one run), and Brady Meyer (two RBIs, one run) and Cronin (one RBI, two runs, two walks) each had one double for JPII. Tyler Ross finished 2-for-4 (two runs, one RBI, double), and pitched six innings, scattered six hits, allowed one earned run, walked one, and struck out five for the win.

Sturgis 6, Mashpee 1: Sturgis (5-9) has won two of their last three games as they beat the Falcons (6-11).

Girls Tennis

Nantucket 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Whalers (8-6) snapped a three-match slide as they swept the Dolphins (0-16). Fiona Keltz won first singles (6-3, 7-5) over Olivia Boyer, Andrea Bunlerssak beat Kelsang Gurung in second singles (6-1, 6-1), and Viktoria Bozhkova defeated Tristin Bradford in third singles (7-5, 6-4) for D-Y.

Sara Dussault and Vicky Todorova beat Maddy Burgess and Willania Thompson in first doubles (6-2, 6-1), while Sutton LeBrecht and Presy Penkova defeated Maddy Stewart and Aimee Teague in second doubles (6-4, 1-6).

Falmouth 3, Sandwich 2; Falmouth 3, Nauset 2: The Clippers (8-9) beat the Lady Knights (4-14) and the Warriors (7-9) in a doubleheader, eight game pro sets.

In the first match, Geneveive Maranchie beat Kaity Landry in first singles (8-3), Maia Ledwell won second singles (8-0) over Arianna Tedeschi, and Sadie Inman and Phoebe Hodgson defeated Senja Kravitz and Abby Binienda in second doubles (8-6) for Falmouth. Chloe Cahoon beat Gayatri Chaturvedivs in third singles (9-8 (9-5)), while Tenley Rothera and Cora Tedeschi defeated Alexis Christian and and Marcella DePaula in first doubles (8-6) for Sandwich.

In the second match, Ledwell beat Anjali O'Brien in second singles (8-1), Christian and DePaula defeated Faye Adams and Chloe Hand in first doubles (8-4), and Inman and Hodgson won second doubles (8-5) over Callie Murphy and Haley Jackson for Falmouth. Nicole Boyce beat Maranchie in first singles (8-4), while Sophia Votteler defeated Chaturvedivs in third singles (8-0) for Nauset.

Mashpee 4, Abington 1: The Falcons (11-8) are warming up right before the postseason starts next week as they have won five of their last six matches. Mariele Henley beat Nathan Ludlam in first singles (6-2, 6-1), while Hannah Rogers defeated Tara Kamil in second singles (6-3, 6-4) for Mashpee. Alina Doolan and Suzie Dias beat Mallory Brink and Sarah Matos in first doubles (6-2, 2-6, 6-4), while Emily Doolan and Grace Dion defeated Teagan Kelly and Mel Andrade in second doubles (6-2, 6-1).

Boys Tennis

Falmouth 4, Sandwich 1: The Clippers (7-10) picked up the win over the Blue Knights (5-8). Quintin Hefferan defeated Kallen Kestenbaum in second singles (6-1, 6-2), while Jack Beardsley won third singles (6-0, 6-2) over Quinn Johnston for Falmouth. Sam Collins and Jacob Faidell beat Andrew Chanya and Joey LaScola in first doubles (6-2, 6-4), while Sebastian Verslycke and and Joe Ledwick defeated Liam McLaughlin and Finn Whelden in second doubles (6-1, 7-5). Andrew Emmel (S) beat Thomas Ghossein in first singles (6-0, 6-1) for Sandwich.

Barnstable 4, Brockton 1; Barnstable 5, Brockton 0: The Red Hawks (14-3) won in a doubleheader over Brockton, eight game pro sets.

In the first match, Harry Baroni defeated Joel Nunoo in first singles (8-1), while Eric Arabadzhiev beat Henry Gomes in second singles (8-0) for Barnstable. Mike Higginbotham and Connor O'Reilly defeated Owen Twomey and Chu Oketeke in first doubles (8-1), while Thomas Berger and Seymour Singh defeated Sébastien Confidant and Peter Paras in second doubles (8-1).

In the second match, Brennan Riley defeated Leo Monteiro in first singles (10-4), Baroni beat Nunoo in second singles (8-0), and Arabadzhiev won third singles (8-0) over Gomes for Barnstable. Higginbotham and O'Reilly defeated Twomey and Oketeke in first doubles (8-0), while Sam Singh and Seymour Singh won second doubles (8-1) over Confidant and Paras.

Nauset 5, St. John Paul II 0: The Warriors finished their regular season 11-5 as they beat the Lions (2-17).

Girls Lacrosse

Sandwich 16, Hanover 9: The Lady Knights (17-1) won their third straight game as Kyla Darmon (two assists) and Quinn Anderson each finished with five goals. Kolbie Darmon (three, goals), Paige Morrison (one goal), Avery Cobban (one goal), Elisabeth Stutzman (one goal), Aubrie Schwager (two assists), and Abi Reisig (one assist) for Sandwich.

Nantucket 20, Falmouth 3: The Whalers (17-0) remain unbeaten as they won their 17th straight game. Emerson Pekarcik (eight goals, three assists), Bailey Lower (five goals, six assists, seven draw controls), Cydney Mosscrop (two goals, four assists), Mayson Lower (two goals, two assists, six draws), Maddie Lombardi (one goal), Suz Peraner (one goal), and Grace Hanlon (one goal) led the offense for Nantucket.

Falmouth Academy 13, Sturgis East 7: The Mariners (6-7) head coach Sarah Knowles recorded her 100th career win as they beat the Storm (2-11).

Thalia O’Neill (four goals, one assist), Faye McGuire (three goals, one assist, two draw controls), Natalie Hurlbut (two goals, one assist, seven draws), Lexi Kalkanis (two goals), Lizzy Blauer (one goal), and Lilah Fulham (one goals) led the offense for Falmouth Academy. Amelia Russell Schaeffer (two assists), Susanna Lowell (one assist, three draws), and Mira Davis (one assist) also contributed, while Willow Wakefield finished with 18 saves in net.

Giannah Alvarez (two goals, one assist), Noriann Wray (one goal, five draws), Keira Harney (one goal), Sara Talbot (one goal, three draws), Celia Hayward (one goal, one draw), and Carli Lundell (one goal, one draw led the offense for Sturgis East.

Nauset 17, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Coral Punch scored, which included her 100th goal, as the Warriors (10-8) beat the Dolphins (4-10) for their first shutout win of the season.Julia Kipperman (four goals), Sienna Reeves (three goals), Allie Higgins (two goals), Zoe Labdon (one goal), Gabby Foster (one goal), and Jordan Nye (one goal) also contributed for Nauset, while goalie Norah Swanson led the defense with 13 saves.

Cape Cod Academy 18, Monomoy 12: The Seahawks (11-4) have won five of their last six games as they beat the Sharks (10-7). Ella Bartolomei (seven goals, two assists, Quinn Powers (five goals, two assists), Olivia Powers (five goals, three assists, and Tricia Carr (one goal) led the way for Cape Cod Academy.

Victoria Letendre played well in goal with 14 saves for Monomoy. Abrielle Long, Casadi Manchuck, Karah Deveau each scored three times, Lucy Bates, Ileana Babes-Deel, and Paige Nash each added one goal, and Gabby Basset and Susannah Brown each chipped in one assist.

St. John Paul II 16, Sturgis West 3: The Lions (12-5) have won nine of their last 10 games as they defeated the Navigators (2-8). Mia Curley (four face-off wins) and Sophie Philbrick each scored three goals and dished out three assists for JPII. Akira Umbrello (four goals, one assist), Katelyn Lawson (two goals, two assists), Charlotte Sturgis (one goal, one assist, nine face-off wins), Raegan Dillon (two goals, two assists), Devin Crofford (one assist), and Marlo Jumper (one goal) also contributed on offense.

Barnstable 13, Bristol Plymouth 2: The Red Hawks (9-6) have won four of their last five games behind four goals and three assists from Alyssa McEneaney. Claire Kayajan (two goals, two assists), Shelby Locascio (two goals), Ava Britton (two goals), Emma Steenstra (one goal), Kera Clifford (one goal) contributed on offense, Callie DeDecko (one goal), Giovanna DeToledo (one assist), Annie Richardson (one assist) all contributed on offense for Barnstable. Morgan Mueller had two saves, while Marnie Sonnabend finished with three saves in goal.

Boys Lacrosse

Sturgis 14, Falmouth Academy 10: Sturgis (2-10) picked up its first win of the month as they beat the Mariners (2-9). Christian Hanoian (four goals, one assist), Cian Davis (three goals), Matt Brown two goals, one assist) and Will Dubreuil (one goal) led the offense for Falmouth Academy.

Cape Cod Academy 20, Dennis-Yarmouth 5: The Seahawks (9-2) have won nine of their last 10 games as they beat the Dolphins (3-10).

Archbishop Williams 14, St. John Paul II 5: The Lions (8-8) snapped a two game win streak.

Sailing

Nantucket 3, Nauset 0: The Whalers (5-2) picked up the win over the Warriors (6-4).
