High school roundup: Johnson, Tevaga pace Carthage's boys basketball win vs. Indian River

Dec. 20—CARTHAGE — Makiah Johnson and Kalel Tevaga scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, as Carthage pulled away in the second quarter and defeated Indian River 76-46 in a Frontier League "A-B" Division boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Aiden Hicks followed with 16 points for the Comets, who went on a 27-8 run going into halftime. Geremiah Ademola-Sadipe added eight points for Carthage (4-2 overall, 2-1 division).

Riley Alexander scored 12 points for Indian River and Ariel Raymond contributed 11.

SACKETS HARBOR 76, LYME 30

Austin Griner scored 19 points and Dylan Aubert provided 18 as Sackets Harbor controlled the "D" Division game against Lyme in Chaumont.

Marcus Castine added 10 points and Ethan Tracy eight for the Patriots (5-0).

Drew Eassa scored 11 points for Lyme (2-5, 1-4).

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 53, BEAVER RIVER 46

Brandon Dodge hit for 29 points and Belleville Henderson went on a 12-6 run in the third quarter in a crossover victory against Beaver River in Belleville.

Jaxon Bettings pitched in with 11 points for the Panthers (2-4, 2-2).

For Beaver River (2-3, 1-2), Kade Schneider scored 21 points and distributed five assists. Carter Rice added 12 points and Josh Bush nine rebounds.

SANDY CREEK 49, ALEXANDRIA 44

Mason Ennist put up 27 points and 17 rebounds to power Sandy Creek to the crossover win against Alexandria in Alexandria Bay.

Anderson Stanton added nine points and nine rebounds for the Comets (4-1, 4-0), who rallied from a six-point halftime deficit for the victory.

LAFARGEVILLE 55, THOUSAND ISLANDS 53

Nate Wyatt posted 23 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks as LaFargeville turned around a nine-point deficit and won the crossover game against Thousand Islands in LaFargeville.

Tyler Pavlot contributed 11 points for the Red Knights (6-2, 4-2), who topped the Vikings 17-9 in the third quarter. Jefferson Smith grabbed 10 rebounds for LaFargeville and Wyatt added 11 steals.

CANTON 46, POTSDAM 42

Ryan Jones scored 26 points and Canton used a 15-7 run in the second quarter to hold off Potsdam in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game in Canton.

Jones added six assists and five rebounds. He hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter and teammate John Wilcox also scored six points in the decisive period. Jackson Ames added 10 rebounds for the Golden Bears.

Ian VanWagner scored 23 points for Potsdam. Brodie Delaney added 12 points.

MASSENA 61, MALONE 51

Owen Mitchell connected for 28 points as Massena held off a fourth-quarter comeback by Malone to come away with the Central Division victory in Malone.

Brandon Barnes added 14 points for the Raiders and Colin Patterson chipped in with 11.

Garrett Osborn scored 21 points and Brad Poupore 13 for the Huskies, who rallied with a 24-13 advantage in the fourth quarter before falling short.

OFA 81, SALMON RIVER 34

Jimmy Pike and Blake Morrill each scored 25 points to power OFA's Central Division victory against Salmon River in Fort Covington.

Pike struck for six 3-pointers and Morrill made five threes.

GOUVERNEUR 83, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 19

Raine Rumble poured in 48 points to headline Gouverneur's Central Division romp against Norwood-Norfolk in Norwood.

Matt Richards scored nine points for Norwood-Norfolk.

In an NAC West Division game, Heuvelton defeated Morristown 73-55. Also, in nonleague play, Edwards-Knox beat Immaculate Heart Central 57-41.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

INDIAN RIVER 70, CARTHAGE 21

Ravan Marsell connected for 25 points to pace Indian River's Frontier League "A-B" Division victory over host Carthage.

Bella Davis followed with 13 points and Keera Lalonde scored nine for Indian River (6-0, 5-0). Kallie Delles and Allison LaMora each scored eight.

Alana Ault led Carthage (1-4, 1-3) with eight points and Erin Bracy scored seven.

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 26, BEAVER RIVER 19

Maeve Crooker led Panthers scorers with eight points as Belleville Henderson won a crossover game against Beaver River in Beaver Falls.

Raegan Riordan added six points for the Panthers (3-3, 2-2).

OFA 41, SALMON RIVER 31

Amya LaFlair scored 22 points, including 14 made free throws, and added eight rebounds in Ogdensburg Free Academy's Northern Athletic Conference Central Division win against Salmon River in Ogdensburg.

Carlee Thompson added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Kaidance Sunday scored 12 points for the Shamrocks.

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 52, PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 19

Addisyn Mitchell led a balanced offense with 13 points and Chloe Poirier scored 12 as Brushton-Moira won the NAC East Division game at Parishville.

Kayla Phelan added 10 points and Rylee Martin nine for Brushton-Moira.

Emma Phippen led Parishville-Hopkinton with nine points.

In another East Division game, St. Lawrence Central topped Colton-Pierrepont 58-49.

VOLLEYBALL

BEAVER RIVER 3, WATERTOWN 0

Kaelyn Boliver served for 19 points, including eight aces, and added 10 kills and 10 assists as Beaver River maintained its unbeaten mark with a crossover victory against Watertown in Beaver Falls. Beaver River won 25-18, 25-13, 25-11.

Adalynn Olmstead led with 12 kills for Beaver River and Rori Mattis finished with 18 assists. Kennedy Becker totaled 12 points and 12 digs.

For the Cyclones, Olivia Urf served for six points and Augusta Boomhower added 11 assists.

BOYS HOCKEY

MALONE 7, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 4

Elijah Henning accounted for a goal and three assists as the Huskies produced an NAC Division II victory against the Flyers in Malone.

Brock Spaulding added two goals for the Huskies (3-3, 2-1) and Jake Kaska contributed an empty-net goal.

Tristan Russell scored twice for Norwood-Norfolk (3-3, 2-2). Gavin Charland also scored.

GIRLS HOCKEY

CANTON 4, MASSENA 1

Saige Stowell, Taylor Stull, Madelyn Southwick and Aubrey Amo each scored as Canton took a 3-0 lead en route to the victory at Massena.

Eliza Creurer added two assists and Stull and Southwick each had an assist. Myrah Bullock made 18 saves in goal.

Madelyn Binion scored for Massena.

POTSDAM 5, SARA-LAKE PLACID 3

Anna Rossner scored twice and assisted on another goal to key Potsdam's victory over Sara-Lake Placid in Lake Placid.

Rylie Bicknell, Jordyn Scott and Erin Lantry also scored for Potsdam. Sophiya McGregor added two assists.

Avery Marcil made 11 saves and Madi Tessier eight in a combined effort in goal for the Sandstoners.
