HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Cape Tech softball gets first win in over a decade

The drought is over.

On Thursday, Cape Cod Regional Technical High School's softball team claimed its first victory since 2011. The Crusaders (1-8) exploded for 24 runs to defeat Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, 24-12.

The Crusaders (1-8) had hits from Addy Burlingame, Maddie Vlachich, Ana Rolfe, and Laura Feliz de Jesus. Cape Tech's last victory was a 21-1 win over Monomoy on May 5, 2018.

Upper Cape falls to 2-10.

Also in softball, St. John Paul II Lions (2-5) beat Martha's Vineyard Vineyarders (1-8), 26-20, and Jayden Bryant went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored the lone run for the Mashpee Falcons (2-10) in their loss to Abington.

Baseball

Upper Cape 14, Cape Tech 13: Down by seven heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rams scored eight runs. Joe Urneck had the winning hit and a two-run single to complete the comeback for Upper Cape (8-3). Harrison Gargan, Tyler Kutil, and Keirnan Ballard each had big hits in the win.

Nauset 4, Sandwich 0: Chase Beach went the distance as he allowed four hits, struck out six, and hit a two-run home run for the Warriors as they upset the Blue Knights at home. Ryan O’Keefe had a two-RBI single and Devin Farrell was 2-for-3 at the plate for Nauset (2-10).

Joe Coughlan led the way at the plate with two hits, and Ty Creighton and Jeremy Angles each had a hit for Sandwich (9-3).

Mashpee 3, Abington 2: Coltan Colleran pitched the final four innings and had the winning RBI for the Falcons in the win. Ryan Triveri finished with two hits and an RBI for Mashpee (7-3).

Boys Lacrosse

Nauset 18, Sandwich 8: The Warriors win their fifth straight game behind five goals each from Andrew Berardi (with two assists) and Cooper McIntire (with assist). Quinn Mucha had six points (three goals, three assists), and Payton Kender, Kevin Wright, Joey Berardi, Riley Meehan, and Logan Poulin each contributed a goal for Nauset (9-2).

Monomoy 10, Dennis-Yarmouth 3: Christian Whittle (three goals, assist) and Tamer Khalil (three goals) both had a hat trick to lead the offense for the Sharks. Joey McKeen (goal, three assists), Owen Ramler (two goals), Seamus St. Pierre (goal, assist), Jackson Rocco (assist), and Braden Burke (assist) all contributed on offense for Monomoy (6-3). Defense was led by Max Barrett, Jordan Charlot, Braeden Darling, Jackson Morneau, and Jake Giorgio with 11 saves. D-Y falls to 3-6.

Nantucket 11, Barnstable 4: The Whalers improve to 5-4, while the Red Hawks drop to 2-9.

Martha’s Vineyard 12, Cape Cod Academy 7: The Vineyarders (5-4) handed the Seahawks (8-2) their second loss of the season.

Girls Lacrosse

Cape Cod Academy 16, Abington 1: Quinn Powers finished with seven points (four goals, three assists) to lead the Seahawks offense to the win. Tilly Crosby (five goals, assist), Reese Moreshead (two goals), Scotia Crosby (goal, assist), and Emelie Jonsson, Bella Keller, Kera Clifford and Elle Murray (goal each) all contributed on offense for Cape Cod Academy (7-3). Flynn Kayajan and Emma Davis combined for five goals on defense.

St. John Paul II 17, Sturgis East 1: Katelyn Lawson, Regan Dillon, Charlotte Sturgis, Sophie Philbrick and Mia Curley each scored two goals for the Seahawks. Maddie Crofford, Kira Nakachi, Meah Dalrymple, Akira Umbrello, Kaylee Anthony, Winnie Hatch and Lexi each netted a goal for JPII (6-4).

Sandwich 8, Nauset 5: Quinn Anderson scored four goals to lead the Blue Knights offensively. Ryan Cobban had a hat trick, Avery Cobban added a goal, and Sophia Visceglio added two assists for Sandwich (10-1). Sienna Reeves scored twice, and Bailey Nobili, Allie Higgins and Zoe Labdon each contributed a goal for Nauset (6-4).

Upper Cape 12, Old Colony 5: Alaina Hines had five goals, and Adryanna Turner added four goals to lead the Rams offense in the win. Meredith Connor, Briel Bailey and Hanna Guay each contributed a goal, Hayley King and Arianna Pearson played well in the second half, and goalie Molly Petty had four saves in net for Upper Cape (11-2).

Mashpee 16, East Bridgewater 2: Paris Hendricks had five points (four goals, assist), and Catie O'Neill finished with six points (five goals, assist) to lead the charge on offense for the Falcons. Tassia McGrail had two goals, two assists, Sammie Morry had two goals and six draw controls, and Ciara Hendricks added four goals and two assists for Mashpee (4-8).

Boys Tennis

Falmouth 3, Sandwich 2: Sam Collins/Jack Dunn defeated Joey LaScola/Kallen Kestenbaum in first doubles (6-4, 6-1), and Quintin Hefferan/Kunio Saito beat Blaise Chatigny/Oakley Gully in second doubles (6-2, 6-0) to clinch the win for the Clippers. Dheer Brahmbhatt won third singles (6-3, 6-3) over Andrew Chanya for Falmouth (2-5).

Andrew Emmel won first singles (6-2, 6-2) over Bode Larsen, and Pablo Gonzalez defeated Thomas Ghossein in second singles (6-2, 2-6, 10-6 tiebreaker) for Sandwich (2-7).

Cape Cod Academy 4, St. John Paul II 1: Luke Spinner defeated Harry Baroni (first singles, 6-2, 6-2), Ben Catalano beat Liam Powell (second singles, 6-0, 6-0), and Griffin Mayo defetaed Raphael DaSilva (third singles, 6-0, 6-1) for the Seahawks singles sweep.

Tom Murray/Kane Traywick defeated Ben Kowal/Zach Jones (first singles, 6-0, 6-1), and Connor Hall/Ayden Naydenov won second doubles by forfeit for Cape Cod Academy (8-1).

Sturgis 4, Nantucket 1: Ben Hall/Francisco Garcia Raya beat Henry Kathanala/Hunter Gross (first doubles, 6-2, 7-5), and Ben Halunen/Robert Muhov defeated Hawkin Edwardes/Soron Edwardes (second doubles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2) to clinch the win for Sturgis.

Mike Olson defeated Quinn Keating (first singles, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (6-4), (7-3)), and Ray Zhang beat Nik Krastev (third singles, 6-1, 6-2) for Sturgis (8-1).

Bryan Kalpazanov defeated Ben Bass in second singles (6-3, 6-4) for Nantucket (4-4).

Girls Tennis

Cape Cod Academy 5, St. John Paul II 0: In a battle of the unbeatens, the Seahawks came out on top with the win.

Fairhaven 5, Bourne 0: The loss drops the Canalmen to 4-9.

Sailing

Cape Cod Academy 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Seahawks (4-3) sailed to a win over the Dolphins (0-3).

Sandwich 3, Monomoy 0: The Blue Knights (2-5) beat the Sharks (1-7).

Girls Golf

Falmouth 4, Monomoy 2: Kayla San Clemente, Katie Shanahan, Maci Griesbauer, and Avery Johnsen each scored a point for Falmouth (3-5). Ava Packett and Orla Delaney each scored a point for Monomoy (7-2).

Nauset 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 3: After losing their season opener, the Warriors (6-1) have now won six in a row. D-Y drops to 3-5.

Track & Field

Division 2 State Relays: Barnstable's 4x1600m relay team of Lilly DeDecko, Callie DeDecko, Chloe Dibb, and Ava Bullock won the race championship in a national qualifying time. The DeDecko sisters, along with Dibb and Sophia Murphy placed third in the Distance Medley (1200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, and 1600 meters).

Division 4 Relays: The Nauset girls team finished ninth, while the boys finished 12th and earned a number of medals.

The Warriors girls shuttle hurdles team won with a Nauset school record (1:12.41). The girls 1600 Sprint Medley Relay team won the event with a time of 4:25.89. The girls triple jump relay team earned a sixth place medal.

The Warriors boys medaled with a third place finish in the shuttle hurdles and in the sprint medley race, and the boys triple jump relay team finished fifth.

Division 6 Relays: The Mashpee girls only had teams for four of the 15 events, but still tied for sixth (31 points) out of 20 teams overall at the meet in team scoring.

The Falcons girls 4x100m team of Sierra Yohannan, Ava DeSimone, Emily Curtin, and Hialeah Turner-Foster finished third overall with a time of 53.75.

The triple jump relay of Sierra Yohannan, Ava DeSimone, and Charlie Jenkins tied for second overall. Yohannan had the fifth longest triple jump of the night overall at 30' 9.25".

The long jump relay of Turner-Foster, Stella Stecei, and Yohannan placed second overall. Turner-Foster had the longest long jump of the night overall at 16' 10.5".

The high jump relay of Turner-Foster, Stecei and Jenkins had the top spot. Turner-Foster and Jenkins set new personal bests (4'10", and 4' 7"), and all three girls were the only ones to clear the 4' 7" increment.
