HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Bourne girls volleyball stay hot with eighth straight win

The Bourne Canalwomen swept Somerset Berkley 25-11, 25-17, 25-8 to win their eighth straight volleyball match and remain unbeaten on the season on Monday.

"Their (Somerset) defense was sensational and they played with a lot of heart," Bourne head coach David Moore said.

Leading the team were setters Elena Timo (senior) with 14 assists, seven kills, eight digs, and Sofia Halunen (sophomore) with 12 assists, seven kills and nine digs.

Libero Lily Russell (sophomore) finished with 11 digs and eight aces, while Nola Timo (sophomore) added three aces, 15 digs and five kills. Mayla Muldoon (sophomore), and Carley May (junior) combined for nine kills and 11 digs.

"We do not have to rely on a couple of players for our scoring, and we are fortunate to be able to have strength in all positions," Moore said. "Tonight's win was a solid team effort, registering 58 digs from our defense, and holding our opponents to six kills on the night."

Girls Volleyball

St. John Paul II 3, Rising Tide 0: The Lions (6-2) won in straight sets (25-20, 25-13, 25-11). Rosanna Sullivan had 11 aces, five kills, and seven digs, while Caitlin McGrail added six aces, three kills, and six digs. Zlata Alioshka had an all-around good game with two aces, three kills, 12 assists, and six digs, while Molly Pulit contributed 10 digs.

Barnstable 3, Falmouth 0: The Red Hawks (6-2) swept the Clippers (3-4) in straight sets (26-9, 25-17, 25-15) in the "Dig Yellow Night" in honor of Olivia Brodt (‘16) and Childhood Cancer Awareness. The offense was led by Molly Fredo with 12 kills, Charlotte Sullivan added six kills, and Molly Gleason finished with eight kills, nine digs and two aces. Sadie Wellbeloved chipped in 24 assists.

Senior Delia Roulston led the back row with nine digs, and junior Maggie McLean had three blocks and five kills for Falmouth.

Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Danvers 2: After trailing 2-1, the Dolphins (4-4) won a tough five set (25-22, 25-27, 25-27, 25-18, 15-11) match. Vivian Castano had 24 assists and four kills, and Meghan Burlingame added eight aces and 15 digs. Mariah Eaton finished with 14 kills and two blocks, while Ellen Swanson contributed 37 digs and two aces.

Blue Hills 3, Upper Cape 0: The Rams (0-7) had season highs in service points, volleys and digs in the loss. Seniors Ava Currier and Emma King, juniors Ella Kerrigan and Miranda Solomon, and sophomores Nigella Johnson and Nadia Prunier played well.

Sturgis East 3, Monomoy 1: The Storm (2-2) beat the Sharks (0-7) in four sets (25-12, 25-18, 22-25, 25-8). Brooke Bouchard had 14 consecutive service points, and middle hitter Sofia Palaza had good net play for Sturgis East. Sophomore Cali Squier, London Caron, and Eme Porter contributed In the win.

Boys Golf

Monomoy 275, Sturgis East 340: Jackson Rocco and Braden Burke each shot a 45 to lead the Sharks (4-1) to the win over the Storm (0-6). Hank Brown (44), Casey Huse (45), Christian Whittle (45) and Aidan Stone (55) rounded out the top six. Matt DiAntonio led the way with a 54 for Sturgis East.

Field Hockey

St. John Paul II 1, Nauset 0: The Lions (7-1) beat the Warriors (2-3-2) for their seventh straight win. Maeve Shortt scored the lone goal of the game with a helper from Kaylee Anthony.

Barnstable 4, Notre-Dame Academy Hing. 2: Senior Ally McEneaney had two goals and two assists for the Red Hawks (4-1-1) in the win. Senior captain Alexa Garthee had one goal and one assist, while senior Sydney Thomas chipped in one goal. Senior goalie Meili Raspante finished with 15 saves in three quarters, including a stroke in the second quarter. Seniors Ruby Coleman and Bridget Bedenkop played well on defense.

Falmouth 3, Cohasset 2: Avery Johnsen scored the winner for the Clippers (2-2-1) with two minutes remaining. Johnsen scored another goal before that, and Makenna Metcalf scored the first goal.

Sandwich 6, Middleboro 0: Khloe Schultz finished with a hat trick for the Blue Knights (7-0) as they win their seventh straight and remain unbeaten. Julia Giampietro had one goal and one assist, and Quinn Jordan and Elisabeth Stutzman each finished with one goal.

Monomoy 9, Plymouth North 1: The Sharks (4-0-1) remian undefeated on the season.

Boys Soccer

Falmouth Academy 2, Cape Tech 1: Marc Djikaev scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the game for the Mariners (3-2) win. Djikaev's second goal was assisted by Gabe Murray, while Christian Hanoian and Ezra Ackerman played well on defense. After conceding two early goals, Jace Clady scored for the Crusaders (2-3-2) in the 30th minute of the game.

Somerset Berkley 3, Bourne 0: The Canalmen lost on the road and fall to 1-4-2 on the season. Goal keeper Nate Reynolds had five saves, defender Sean Kelley finished with four blocked shots and eight clearouts, and midfielder Leo Andrade played well. Quinn Moriarty and Mike Dankert each had two shots each on goal.

Girls Soccer

Falmouth Academy 5, Cape Tech 0: Faye McGuire and Thalia O’Neil led the Mariners (2-3) with two goals each, while Susanna Lowell added a goal. The Crusaders fall to 0-6.

St. John Paul II 7, Boston Latin Academy 1: Addison Cheney led the way for the Lions (3-2-1) with four goals, while Ella Cheney added one goal and three assists. Michaela Enright and Cassidy Conway rounded out the scoring with a goal each, while Raegan Dillon, Marlo Jumper and Enright each added an assist. Devin Crofford and Meah Dalrymple played well on defense.
