HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Bourne boys hockey's defense leads the way in the win

The Bourne High boys hockey team have won six of their last seven games, beating Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Tech/Cape Cod Academy 6-2 on Wednesday behind four goals from their defense.

Domenic Bonito scored a goal and dished out three assists, while Ty Kelley (one goal, two assists), Caleb Kean (two goals, one assist), and James Crowell (three assists) each had three-point nights. Ryan Burgess and Luca Finton each scored a goal. Nate McDonnell, Joziah DeSouza and Matteo Scena each had one assist, while Jackson Palmborg played well in net for Bourne. Kaden Morin scored his first varsity goal, while Tanner Chicoine added a power play goal for D-Y.

Boys Hockey

Abington 7, St. John Paul II 5: The Lions (5-12-2) came up short at home.

Rockland 6, Monomoy/Mashpee 4: The Sharks (3-11-2) lost back-to-back games after a two-game win streak.

Girls Hockey

Sandwich 3, Bishop Feehan 0: The Blue Knights (8-9-2) have won three of their last four games. Khloe Schultz, Maddy Butler, and Casey Pestilli (one assist) each scored a goal, while Elisabeth Stutzman added an assist for Sandwich. Maggie Welden had 28 saves in net for her first career shutout and win.

Bishop Stang 3, D-Y/CCA/JPII 2: The Dolphins (4-12-1) have lost back-to-back games to Bishop Stang. The two goals were scored by Paige Fowler and Leah Woodward, while Sophie Curry had 44 saves in net for D-Y.

Martha’s Vineyard 2, Norwood 1: The Vineyarders (10-7) snapped a two game slide.

Girls Basketball

Sandwich 42, O’Bryant 28: Izzy Barr had five steals and four rebounds, while Riley Spur finished with five points and four rebounds for the Blue Knights (17-1).

Dennis-Yarmouth 63, Nauset 43: Siena Lauze and Jaylene Pires each scored 17 points in the Dolphins (12-4) win over the Warriors (7-12). Chloe Azoff scored 13 points, while Maeve Dolan added 10 points for D-Y.

Rising Tide 31, Sturgis East 30: The Storm dropped to 3-12 on the season.

East Bridgewater 65, Barnstable 55: The Red Hawks (8-11) have dropped their last three games. Molly Gleason had 23 points (seven 3-pointers) for Barnstable.

Carver 77, St. John Paul II 59: The Lions (14-6) have dropped two of their last three games.

Boys Basketball

Sandwich 80, O’Bryant 43: Cole Rodgers finished with 19 points and five rebounds in the Blue Knights (9-8) victory. Cole Weiner (13 points, two rebounds), Matt Murray (12 points, six rebounds), and Cam Murphy (11 points, two 3-pointers) all contributed for Sandwich.

Falmouth 55, Bristol Plymouth 36: The Clippers (5-12) snapped a five game losing streak on Senior Night. Seniors Gavin Friel (17 points), Jackson Falcone (10 points), and Adrean Blackwood (8 points) led the way for Falmouth.

Sturgis West 44, St. John Paul 30: The Navigators (8-10) have won three of their last four as they beat the Lions (4-14). Sturgis West was led by Foalan O’Donnell and Gregory Codjoe with 11 and 10 points respectively. Matt Curley and Brandon Gomes each scored eight points, while Griffin Mayo added five points for JPII.
