High school football recaps: Norton is 7-0; Copley, Ellet, Hudson, Manchester, Stow win

Hudson (5-2, 3-1) kept its title hopes alive in the Suburban League National Conference on Friday, dominating on defense in a 17-6 win over visiting Brecksville. The Bees (4-3, 2-2) gained just 75 yards rushing and were held to a lone touchdown pass — from Colin Seibert to Kyle Keener — with 3:14 remaining.

Ian Ludewig (32 carries, 148 yards) scored on the ground for the Explorers. Peyton Neher threw a 22-yard touchdown to Louie Castellarin and Ian Katz added a 36-yard field goal to account for the Explorers’ scoring.

Barberton 29, Revere 12

Rudy Sharkey has a stadium named after him at Barberton, but his longstanding record for career wins is in jeopardy.

Host Barberton beat Revere in Suburban League American Conference action to stay alive in the league race, and the Magics (4-3, 3-1) also gave coach Tony Gotto another win to bring his career record to 70-34.

One more win and he’ll tie Sharkey, who won 71 games in 11 seasons before stepping down in 1982.

Barberton's Xzavier Macon totaled 20 carries, 131 yards and two touchdowns. Dominic Wilson went 13-of-19 passing for 178 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Kenny Larry (5 catches, 106 yards). Noah Dehart added a rushing TD.

The Minutemen (3-4, 1-3) scored via a safety, field goal and kickoff return TD.

Manchester 19, Tuslaw 7

Kevin Stacy picked up his first career win as head coach for the host Panthers (1-6, 1-3), who topped the Mustangs (2-5, 0-4) in Principals Athletic Conference action.

Manchester did it with defense as Caleb Youngman, Jayce Mauger and Balise Donatelli logged interceptions. Mauger returned his pick for a touchdown. Cody Hoster ran for two touchdowns.

Copley 48, Cuyahoga Falls 29

John Kromalic earned his first career win as head coach for Copley (1-6, 1-3) in a SLAC game at Falls (2-5, 0-4).

Copley's Gabe Mansel ran for three touchdowns and threw two touchdown passes, one apiece to Andrew McKnight and Dontiar "Scooby" Stanford. McKnight also returned a kickoff for a TD and grabbed an interception.

Copley's Ricardo Childs ran for a TD and Michael Luecke made four PATs.

Cuyahoga Falls quarterback Joey Earl threw three touchdown passes, one apiece to Gavanni Tuttle, Jaydon Graffuis and Valentino Cargill. Camden Wright contributed a rushing TD.

Stow 21, North Royalton 17

Paul Biltz ran for a 23-yard touchdown with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the host Bulldogs (1-6, 1-2 SLNC) a lead for good against the Bears (1-6, 0-3).

Stow's Jake Harrington ran for a TD and threw a 40-yard TD pass to Daylon Keeling. Stow's Maddox Snyder forced a fumble that he recovered and snagged an interception. Bulldogs kicker Davis Broghammer made all three of his PAT attempts.

Twinsburg 42, Brush 7

The host Tigers (3-4) snapped a three-game skid by running out to a 35-0 lead over the Arcs (1-6). Aiden Stuczynski scored two rushing touchdowns, and Joey Pollock threw two touchdown passes to Cam Wright and another to Jaden Dye.

Dye added another touchdown on a kick return for Twinsburg, which hasn’t lost by more than 11 points all season.

Youngstown Ursuline 34, St. Vincent-St. Mary 20

Ursuline (7-0) snapped a 10-game losing streak against host STVM (4-3), which has lost two games in a row.

STVM's Rylan Hurley had a 16-yard touchdown run and threw a 69-yard TD pass to SirCharles Gordon.

Logan Henderson opened the scoring for STVM with a pick six in the second quarter. STVM outgained Ursuline 341-275 but threw three interceptions and lost a fumble.

Ursuline's Jack Ericson threw three touchdown passes, two to Devonte Taylor and one to DC Ferrell. Ursuline's Jy'Quise Liason returned a kickoff 82 yards for a TD and Christian Lynch added a rushing TD.

Canton Central Catholic 20, Mogadore 13

The Wildcats (5-2) went up by six in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown by Aaron Rumschlag, but the host Crusaders (4-3) ran off 20 straight points in a nonleague matchup.

CCC's Dan Boron ran for a TD and caught a TD pass from Brennan Betz. Andrew Neal also caught a TD pass from Betz. Boron and Neal each grabbed an interception.

Aaron Contstantine made things interesting with a 2-yard touchdown with 5 minutes remaining.

Ellet 20, North 14

John Daraio earned his first career win as head coach for host Ellet (1-6, 1-1) against City Series foe North (1-6, 0-2).

Ellet's Terrance Thomas Jr. ran for 123 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries. Brandon Knowles added a rushing TD and Jake Flossie threw a TD pass to Isaiah Brown.

Ellet's Cameron Hinkle made nine tackles and Keyshawn Stephens made seven tackles. Both players had three tackles for loss.

Highland 42, Kent Roosevelt 0

Evan Grant ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries to power the visiting Hornets (6-1, 4-0 SLAC) past the Rough Riders (4-3, 2-2).

Highland's Johnny Siliko ran for two touchdowns and Peyton Janickas ran for one TD. Matt Ciryak returned a kickoff 93 yards for a TD, Carson Kwiatkowski made all six of his PAT attempts and Jack Capotosto had four sacks.

Aurora 38, Tallmadge 0

The visiting Greenmen (6-1, 4-0 SLAC) used strong defense to win as the Blue Devils (2-5, 1-4) threw three interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns by Ben Lukasik and Enzo Catania. Catania also ran for a TD and forced a fumble that he recovered.

Green 42, Louisville 7

Tyson Hunka ran for two touchdowns and threw two TD passes, one apiece to Kaden Gregory and Zach Baglia to lead the visiting Bulldogs (5-2) past the Leopards (1-6). Green's Josh Just returned an interception for a touchdown, Jorden Beyl added a rushing TD and Caleb Boyle 6 of 6 PATs.

Ravenna 49, Coventry 13

Ke’Shan Talbert (9 carries, 75 yards, TD) and Bob Melzer (4 catches, 66 yards, TDs) paced the Ravens (2-5, 2-2) in Metro Athletic Conference action. Comet Matt Prebynski (7 carries, 71 yards, TD).

Norton 55, Springfield 7

Zach Bowman three touchdown passes in the first quarter to propel the host Panthers (7-0, 4-0 MAC) past the Spartans (0-7, 0-4). Noah Willig, Lucas Dobbins and Thomas Hoffman each caught a first-quarter TD pass.

Noah Willig added a punt return TD and caught a TD pass from his brother, Buddy Willig.

Buddy Willig recovered a fumble and scored a TD. Dobbins and Xavier Fetter both had a rushing TD.

Woodridge 42, Cloverleaf 14

Charlie Lambes completed 11 of 16 passes for 227 yards and one touchdown and ran four times for 51 yards and another TD to guide the host Bulldogs (4-3, 3-1 MAC) past the Colts (3-4, 1-3).

Woodridge's Taysear Williams-Clay ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries and Jack Novak had six catches for 164 yards.

Robert Dixie caught the TD pass from Lambes, Gavin Lynch returned an interception for a TD and Ibraheem Jubouri made all six of his PAT attempts.
