High school football programs host combines for college coaches. What's the 2024 schedule?

From the Sixth Annual County Fair College Combine to the Southwest Ohio Small School Combine, Southwest Ohio football programs have created opportunities to showcase their athletes for college coaches in late April and early May.

The County Fair combine started in 2018 with four programs and has grown into a combine with nine participating teams from four different conferences: Anderson, Harrison, Mount Healthy, Middletown, Withrow, Taft, Lakota East, Winton Woods and Princeton.

According to combine coordinator Chris Gillam, about "60 to 100 college coaches from Power Five to Division III and NAIA" can be at any combine at a time.

"We want to make sure all kids across Hamilton County can benefit from this day," Gillam said.

Successful combines haven't just grown the County Fair edition. More across the state have popped up, including a small school combine at Finneytown and a Greater Catholic League combine.

What happens at the Cincinnati combines?

College coaches can expect hour-long football displays from each school participating in any given combine.

"When you go to a combine, what you'll see are football moves," Gillam said. "Guys getting out there and doing things that they can truly be evaluated on by college coaches. Let (the coaches) see guys move around and doing football movements. That's really all we can do in Ohio since we don't have spring ball like they do in Georgia and Florida."

Gillam said due to the timing in late spring with some schools having combines as early as 6 a.m., athletes can avoid or work out timing conflicts that may come from other sporting requirements.
