High school basketball: Lenawee County hoops from Feb. 19-23

It's the final week of the boys basketball regular season while the girls have two weeks to go until the start of the MHSAA postseason.

Here's what's gone on this week in Lenawee County basketball:

MONDAY

BOYS BASKETBALL

Springport 57, Sand Creek 54

SAND CREEK — The two teams went into the fourth quarter tied but the Spartans pulled away.

Rory Eack scored 25 points for the 9-12 Aggies. Trevor Opel scored 15 and Cole Scharer added 10.

Quincy 59, Morenci 40

MORENCI — The Bulldogs got 11 points from Shamus Alcock, but it wasn’t enough for Morenci to avoid the loss.

Morenci is 1-19 overall.

Ida 39, Hudson 28

HUDSON — Hudson made the same number of field goals as the visiting Bluestreaks but were outscored 13-1 at the free throw line.

Isaac St. John had eight points and four rebounds, Jackson Jones had eight points and Lucius Arnett had six rebounds for Hudson (2-17, 1-11 LCAA).

Girls Basketball

Erie Mason 50, Sand Creek 23

ERIE — The story of the game was free throws as the Eagles went 18-for-27 from the free throw line while the Aggies were 1-for-9.

Sand Creek (1-17, 0-10 TCC) got 10 points from Tanana Emmendorfer.

TUESDAY

Boys Basketball

Onsted 74, Clinton 40

ONSTED — The Wildcats completed its third straight outright Lenawee County Athletic Association championship with the victory. Onsted is 40-2 in the league over the last three seasons.

Ayden Davis scored 25 points and had 22 rebounds for Onsted (17-4, 13-1 LCAA). JT Hill scored 24 points.

Clinton (9-12, 5-9 LCAA) got 17 points from Jalen Stelzer.

Adrian 67, Pinckney 48

ADRIAN — The Maples won on senior night. Senior Sean Parker scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Stevie Elam had 23 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assist for the Maples (17-3, 7-2 SEC White).

Sand Creek 66, Vandercook Lake 64

JACKSON — The Aggies completed the regular season with 10 more wins than they did last season.

Rory Eack fired in 31 points and had 15 rebounds and two steals. It was his free throws with five seconds left that gave Sand Creek the two-point lead. Trevor Opel scored 22 points and had nine boards and five assists.

The Aggies enter the postseason 10-12 overall.

Blissfield 67, Hillsdale 55

HILLSDALE — Gabe Schnoor had his biggest scoring night of the season with 31 points to lead the Royals (12-9, 8-6 LCAA).

Mason Case added 12 points and Tyler Ganun had 10 for the Royals, who tied Ida for third place in the LCAA.

Jackson 53, Tecumseh 49

TECUMSEH — The Vikings outscored Tecumseh 8-4 in the second overtime to pull out the SEC White Division game.

Ryan Mossburg scored 15 points and Ryan Barrie 14 for Tecumseh (14-6, 4-5 SEC White). Player of the Week, Tyler Clement, had four assists and three steals.

Toledo Christian 74, Lenawee Christian 64

TOLEDO — No. 1 ranked Lenawee Christian lost to No. 2 ranked Toledo Christian in a battle of powerhouse programs in Toledo.

Toledo Christian came into the game 19-1 and ranked No. 2 in Ohio’s Division 4. LCS had won 15 straight games and was 18-2 coming into the contest. Toledo Christian outscored LCS by 10 in the third quarter, which proved to be the biggest difference in the game.

Brandon Summer scored 21 and Jaxon Salenbien 20 for the Cougars.

Ida 51, Madison 50

IDA — Madison fell just shy in its LCAA finale.

Antonio Nieto scored 24 points to lead the Trojans (10-11, 7-7 LCAA).

Dundee 64, Hudson 32

HUDSON — The No. 2 team in the LCAA doubled up Hudson.

Jackson Jones scored 12 points and Isaac St. John had 10 for the Tigers (2-19, 1-13 LCAA).

Fayette 64, Addison 33

GORHAM, Ohio — Only three players scored for the Panthers, who dressed only nine players.

Jaxen Sword scored 19 points and Josh Ray nine for Addison (4-17).

Girls Basketball

Blissfield 65, Hillsdale 27

BLISSFIELD — Avery Collins scored 27 points to reach 1,000 for her career and the Royals clinched at least a share of the Lenawee County Athletic Association championship.

Collins added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Leigh Wyman scored 12 points and had six steals. Peyton Tennant and Addison Martinez each had nine rebounds for Blissfield (16-2, 12-0 LCAA).

Morenci 34, Lenawee Christian 23

ADRIAN — Morenci clinched its second consecutive Tri-County Conference championship with a defensive gem.

The Bulldogs allowed nine field goals in victory No. 15 on the season. Colbie Ekins scored a season-high nine points for the Bulldogs (15-3, 10-1 TCC).

Lenawee Christian (8-11, 7-4 TCC) was led by Hannah Baker, who scored 12 points.

Clinton 44, Onsted 27

CLINTON — Player of the Week, Zoey Sierer, scored 21 points to lead the Redwolves to the LCAA victory.

Kaylee Kranz added 12 points for Clinton (10-7, 7-5 LCAA).

Onsted (8-12, 4-9 LCAA) was led by Ainsley Brezvai, who finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Madison 51, Ida 27

MADISON TWP. — The Trojans got revenge from an early season loss to Ida.

Jaeda Parish scored 14, making four 3-pointers, while Nevaeh Parish scored 11 for Madison (17-3, 11-2 LCAA).

Hudson 42, Dundee 35

DUNDEE — Taylor Kopin had one of her biggest nights of the season with 23 points to lead Hudson.

The Tigers are 7-11 overall and 4-8 in LCAA action.

Erie Mason 61, Britton Deerfield 45

BRITTON — The Patriots stayed close to Erie Mason for a half before the Eagles pulled away.

Alivia Salenbien scored 14 points and Lily Watson added 13 for BD (3-17, 2-10 TCC).

Columbia Central 69, Addison 35

BROOKLYN — The Panthers fell to 4-15 despite 12 points by Izzy Durkee and 11 points by Kayli Trumble.

Addison is 2-12 in Cascades Conference play.

Summerfield 46, Sand Creek 23

PETERSBURG — Tanana Emmendorfer scored 14 points for the Aggies.

Sand Creek has lost 17 straight games and is 1-18 (0-11 TCC).

Pinckney 45, Adrian 39

ADRIAN — The Maples led 32-27 going into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold the lead.

Ella Salenbien led Adrian (7-10, 3-6 SEC White) with 11 points.

WEDNESDAY

Girls Basketball

Tecumseh 78, Jackson 25

JACKSON — Tecumseh wasn’t taking any chances Wednesday, hitting 10 3-pointers and piling up 78 points to win a share of the SEC White Division title. It’s the first girls basketball title for Tecumseh (15-4, 9-1 SEC White) in 20 years.

Alli Zajac and Makayla Schlorf scored 15 points each while Ashlyn Moorehead added 14. Addi Zajac and Chloe Bullinger each scored 11 points.

Addi Zajac added 13 rebounds while Bullinger had four steals and Moorehead had five assists.

Blissfield 59, Hudson 25

HUDSON — The Royals scored 25 points in the third quarter to pull away from the Tigers and clinch the outright Lenawee County Athletic Association championship.

Avery Collins scored 25 points while having six steals and five assists. Leigh Wyman added 11 points and Peyton Tennant had 11 points and eight rebounds for Blissfield (17-2, 13-0 LCAA).

Hudson (7-12, 4-9 LCAA) was led by Taylor Kopin, who scored 10 points.

Clinton 45, Whiteford 34

CLINTON — The Redwolves got off to a great start and finished strong to beat the Bobcats in non-league game.

Zoey Sierer scored 17 points and Kaleigh Ramos had 11 for the Redwolves (11-7).

Adrian 41, Ypsilanti 34

YPSILANTI — Ciara Ernst sank four 3-pointers and scored 17 points to lead Adrian to the SEC White Division victory.

Ella Salenbien added 11 points for Adrian (8-10, 4-6 SEC White).

Boys Basketball

Adrian 70, Ypsilanti 41

YPSILANTI — Calvin Polley scored 17 points, Stevie Elam had 16 and Tristin Hayes scored 10 as Adrian beat Ypsilanti and swept the season series with the Grizzlies.

The Maples are 18-3 (8-2 SEC White).

THURSDAY

Boys Basketball

Tecumseh 49, Hudson 43

HUDSON — In a Webster father-son coaching matchup, son Jamison came out on top with his Tecumseh squad.

Hudson had the lead in the third quarter before Tecumseh went on a run and took the lead. Hudson had a chance to make it a one possession game with about a minute to go but couldn’t get a shot to fall.

Ryan Barrie hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points and Ryan Mossburg scored 12 for 16-6 Tecumseh.

Qwadn Wallace led Hudson (2-20) with 14 points, three assists and two blocked shots.

Blissfield 78, Whiteford 63

BLISSFIELD — Gabe Schnoor was the difference for the Royals, scoring 36 points. He had 11 in the first quarter, nine in the second, nine in the third and seven in the fourth on his way to the biggest scoring night of his career.

Tyler Ganun added 11 points for the Royals, who will take a 13-9 record into districts.

Dundee 70, Britton Deerfield 65

BRITTON — The Patriots led at halftime against 18-4 Dundee, put the Vikings pulled it out in the second half.

Brayden Shiels finished with 20 points while Logan Shiels scored 15 and Colin Johnson put up 14 for BD (16-6).

Saline 57, Onsted 56

SALINE — The Wildcats took the lead in the final seconds on two free throws by Ayden Davis only to see Saline win the game on a 3-point shot from around half court at the buzzer.

Davis scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Aidan Paquin had 10 points for 17-5 Onsted.

Jonesville 60, Madison 48

JONESVILLE — Antonio Nieto scored 19 points while Bryce Jordan had five assists and three steals for the Trojans.

Madison closed the regular season 10-12.

Columbia Central 54, Clinton 48

BROOKLYN — The Redwolves closed the regular season 9-13.

Caden Keith had 24 points for Clinton.

Girls Basketball

Lenawee Christian 46, Summerfield 38, OT

ADRIAN — Hannah Baker had a big game for the Cougars, scoring 10 points in overtime and 24 for the game.

Baker added 10 rebounds for LCS (9-11, 8-4 TCC). Izzy Brooks chipped in with 10 points.

Morenci 38, Erie Mason 30

ERIE — The TCC champion Bulldogs wrapped up the TCC with one loss after beating the Eagles on the road.

Morenci’s Alyssa Gibbs scored 20 points to lead all scorers. The Bulldogs are 16-3 and finished 11-1 in league play.

Whiteford 55, Sand Creek 19

SAND CREEK — The Aggies are 1-19 and 0-12 in the TCC after the home court loss to the Bobcats.

Tanana Emmendorfer led Sand Creek with six points.

FRIDAY

Girls Basketball

Tecumseh 59, Detroit Renaissance 55

TECUMSEH — When Plymouth Christian couldn’t make the trip to Tecumseh Friday, school officials were able to land the No. 3 team in Division 1, Detroit Renaissance.

Tecumseh (16-4) then made a school-record 11 3-pointers and won by four.

“Our girls played their hearts out with no preparation or practice,” Tecumseh coach Kristy Zajac said. “So proud of how they competed. Awesome win for our program.”

Alli Zajac and Makayla Schlorf each made five 3-pointers. Zajac scored 24 and Schlorf 19. Chloe Bullinger scored nine.

Blissfield 44, Madison 40

BLISSFIELD — The Royals wrapped up their second consecutive 14-0 LCAA campaign.

Avery Collins scored 16 points and had six steals and five assists. Leigh Wyman had 12 points and Peyton Tennant pulled down six rebounds.

Madison’s Jaeda Parish scored 15 and Caylan Sower had 12.

Adrian 44, Ann Arbor Skyline 33

ANN ARBOR — Adrian won for the ninth time this season to get to 9-10 with a full slate of game next week to go.

Ciarra Ernst had 13 points to lead the Maples while Makenna Johnson added 12, eight rebounds, three steals and two assist.

Addison 38, Napoleon 34

ADDISON — Taylor Jzerski scored 14 points while Izzy Durkee and Laci Patterson each scored nine points for the Panthers in the Cascades Conference crossover game.

Addison finishes the regualer season at 5-15 and 3-12 in the Cascades.

Clinton 49, Hillsdale 38

CLINTON — Zoey Sierer finished with 12 points to lead a balanced Redwolves attack.

Kyleigh Ramos had 10 while Kaylie Livingston and Kendall Phillip scored nine points apiece for Clinton (11-7, 7-5 LCAA).

Onsted 43, Dundee 38

ONSTED — JayElle Christian fired in 18 points for the Wildcats and Kylie Kimerer finished with 11.

The Wildcats closed the regular season 9-12 and 5-9 in the LCAA.

Ida 50, Hudson 39

HUDSON — Taylor Kopin poured in 28 points for the Tigers, including shooting 10-for-11 from the free throw line, in the loss.

Hudson is 7-13 overall and finished 4-10 in the LCAA.

Boys Basketball

Adrian 62, Toledo St. Francis 47

ADRIAN — Adrian closed the regular season 19-3. It’s the most victories in a season for the Maples since the 1999-00 team went 20-4 and tied the school’s single season win record.

Stevie Elam scored 28 points to lead Adrian. Sean Parker scored 14 points and Jaxon Francis added 10.

Lenawee Christian 60, Bedford 49

TEMPERANCE — The Cougars started the second half on a 14-0 run to seize control of the game.

Bedford led after the first quarter and the game was tied 22-22 at halftime. LCS outscored Bedford 21-9 in the third quarter.

Brandon Summer scored 19 points, Jaxon Salenbien had 16 and Aidan Kaulins scored 11 to lead LCS. The Cougars, ranked No. 1 earlier this week in the Associated Press Division 4 poll, finished the regular season 19-3.

Addison 68, Morenci 53

MORENCI — In afternoon assembly matchup, the Panthers got five 3-pointers and 24 points from Jaxen Sword and pulled away from the Bulldogs.

Gunnar Demeuse added 18 and Josh Ray 11 for Addison (6-16).

Morenci (1-20) was led by Shamus Alcock and Talan Kruse, who scored 12 points apiece.
