Hesperia wrestlers claim 5 titles at the Norco Boys Rodeo Invitational tournament

The Hesperia wrestling team dominated at the Norco Boys Rodeo Invitational on Nov. 25 as five wrestlers claimed titles.

The Scorpions ended the tournament with 263 points, while Millikan finished in a distant second place with 153 points.

Emiliano Hernandez received the Outstanding Wrestler award after claiming the 132-pound title. He pinned Nathaniel Freitas, of Vista Murrieta, at the 1:53 mark of the first round. Hernandez won all four of his matches by pinfall.

While Hernandez received the award, teammate Angel Salgado competed in five matches en route to the 144-pound title. Salgado won his first four matches by pinfall, including two in under a minute. He scored a 7-2 decision over Norco’s Bryce Gonzales in the title match.

At 120 pounds, Hector Hernandez also got off to a quick start with two pinfalls in under a minute, followed by scoring two decisions, including the title match when he beat Vista Murrieta’s Steve Corona 7-0.

Christopher Guerrero claimed first place in the 138 division with five total victories. He beat Rim of the World’s Jedediah Jackson with an 11-4 decision in the title match. Also in the weight class, Guerrero’s teammate Stone Torres finished in sixth place.

Frankie Stevenson rounded out the first-place finishes for the Scorpions at 175 pounds. He won by pinfall, a major decision and two decisions, including 8-7 in the title match over Justus Stewart, of Rim of the World.

At 126 pounds, teammates Andrew Diaz and Landin Arguelles made runs to the title match, but they did not compete against each other and were considered co-champions. Diaz won his three matches with two pinfalls and a major decision, while Arguelles ended with two pinfalls and two decision victories.

Heavyweight Anthony Ruiz made a run to the title match but forfeited, settling for second place. He won three matches by pinfall and scored an 8-5 decision over Damien’s Ryan Alba in the semifinals.

Dylan Garcia took third place at 113 pounds after teammate Zachary Southern forfeited the match. The teammates both reached the semifinals and lost. In the consolation bracket, they each won by pinfall in under a minute to get to the third-place match.

Dane Holm made a run to the semifinals at 190 pounds and dropped into the consolation bracket, where he earned two victories. He scored a 5-4 decision over Alex Martinez, of Rim of the World, for third place.

Hesperia also got a fourth-place finish from Aiden Valencia (165 pounds), while in 150-pound action, Joshua Hernandez finished fifth, while teammate Jacob Gonzales took sixth.
