District 23-5A co-champions Hendrickson and Georgetown swept past District 24-5A's Ann Richards and Crockett in area high school volleyball playoffs Monday night at the Delco Center.

On the opening night of the UIL state playoffs, Hendrickson setter Morgan Warren chalked up 37 assists, notched six digs and served three aces to lead Hendrickson past determined Ann Richards 25-14, 25-12, 25-10 and will advance to face Houston Lake Creek, which upset Lake Belton, in the area round later this week.

“We got together as a team — we have a lot of seniors — after the loss Friday night to Georgetown and really wanted to come out and play together as a team," Warren said. "Every match from here on could be the last one and we wanted to stay close and play our hardest."

Warren dished assists to nine different players; Kara Wynn collected 14 kills on 21 swings while Kamea Uitenham added 11 kills.

Hendrickson (32-7) finished the first set on a 10-5 scoring run, then won the second with a 20-6 spurt and jumped to a quick 9-1 lead in the third. Ann Richards, meanwhile, has only three seniors on the roster and the core of its squad are freshmen and sophomores. The Stars (19-11), who went 14-3 in district, were led by freshman Noah Morris' six kills as well as sophomores Greta Urban, Lyla Annen and Jayda Golech.
