Keegan Smith's last game-winning goal won Haverling a state championship Sunday morning at Cortland High School.

Smith's first half goal was all the Rams needed to beat Section XI's Babylon 1-0 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B Championship.

In the NYSPHSAA Class D final, Fillmore lost to Section III's Cincinnatus 3-0 at Homer High School, falling short of joining Haverling and Class AA's Spencerport as Section V's girls soccer state champions.

"This was at the top of our list of goals," Fillmore coach Jon Beardsley said. "It was difficult to get here. We've had success in our program. Never the pinnacle but we've been to the state tournament.

"Teams get here with talented players and a program that believes you have to do the little things right. We've done it that way since the kids were in elementary school. They bought in. Kids at Fillmore want to be a part of this program."
