Hartshorne rallies to advance to area consolation final

Mar. 1—The Lady Miners are one game away.

Hartshorne faced off against Cashion in Friday's Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Class 2A Area III consolation semifinal, where the Lady Miners rallied to a 71-64 win to advanced to the area consolation final

Cashion jumped into an early lead, but Hartshorne rallied with a late-quarter run to make it a 13-10 Lady Wildcats lead after the opening period. In the second period, both teams went shot-for-shot, trading blows on the way to a 27-21 Casion lead at the half.

After the locker room visit, Hartshorne looked to trim down the deficit. But Cashion responded with a run to increase its lead to nine points. The Lady Miners stayed focused, slicing through the differential to trim the lead down to four points heading into the third.

The fourth period saw tensions and anxiety rise as defensive efforts kept both teams initially scoreless. Hartshorne soon found its opening, closing the gap and tying up the game at 52-52 with 6:04 left to play.

Brooky Surginer got a cleanup score, putting the Lady Miners on the high side for the first time in the ballgame. Surginer followed that up with an and-one opportunity, making all three points to give Hartshorne a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

The Lady Miners soon built up an eight-point lead, with Cashion slicing that down to five points with a made three. Jayda Moore drove through the lane, ending up fouled and making a free throw to extend the lead back to six.

That final push made the difference, with Hartshorne holding on for the win.

Next up for the Lady Miners, they'll return Saturday to take on Merritt — with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
