Hartselle baseball takes Game 2 vs Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, one win from state title victory

JACKSONVILLE — Hartselle forced a Game 3 in the Class 6A state championship series after defeating Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 10-3 Friday afternoon.

Hillcrest dominated Hartselle 14-3 in Game 1. However, in Game 2 Hillcrest could not get any offense going. It finished with a solo home run from Brooks Tunnel and two runs scored in the sixth.

Hartselle's offense was sparked with a triple from Cade Miles that led to its first score in the opening inning. Miles finished with three total RBIs in the contest.

With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Asher Doepel's line drive single sent home two more runners extending the lead to 7-1. Hartselle added two more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh putting the game out of reach for Hillcrest.

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
