Harold Varner, Marc Leishman lead a dozen LIV Golf members in U.S. Open sectional qualifiers

There are already 11 members of LIV Golf who qualified for the U.S. Open field at the Los Angeles Country Club June 15-18.

The potential exists on Monday for more than double that number to earn their way into the season’s third major championship.

A dozen members of LIV Golf are in seven of the 10 36-hole U.S. Open sectional qualifiers that will be played to determine the final 62 spots in the final field, led by the most recent winner of a LIV event, Harold Varner III in Washington D.C. Varner will be trying to qualify in his native state of North Carolina.

Depending on how they perform in the sectionals, the number of LIV players in the U.S. Open could surpass the 18 who were eligible for the Masters and 17 who played in the PGA Championship.

Here are the LIV players in Open sectionals:

  • Pine Tree Golf Club, Boynton Beach: Matthew Wolf, Carlos Ortiz.

  • Brookside/The Lakes, Columbus, Ohio: Jason Kokrak, Peter Uihlein.

  • Woodmont Country Club, Rockville, Md.: Marc Leishman, Sebastian Munoz.

  • Old Chatham Golf Club, Durham, N.C.: Varner.

  • Hillcrest Country Club, Los Angeles: Matt Jones, Brendan Steele, David Puig.

  • Springfield (Ohio) Country Club: James Piot.

  • Canoe Brook Country Club, Summit, N.J.: Cameron Tringale.

Sergio Garcia qualified at a sectional held in May in Dallas.

Already in the Open, based on their record in majors, their world golf ranking and last year’s PGA Tour FedEx Cup season: Abraham Ancer, Bryson DeChambeau, Martin Kaymer, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann, Mito Pereira, Thomas Pieters, Patrick Reed, Cameron Smith.
