Harbor Springs forfeits finale with Charlevoix, Rayders change up Friday night
CHARLEVOIX — When the postseason rolls around, football teams and coaches adapt quickly to whoever is next up.
The Charlevoix football team is just starting that a week early.
Scheduled to meet rival Harbor Springs in the final week of the season, plans changed Monday night for both teams when Harbor Springs forfeited their Week 9 matchup.
The Rams (0-8) are left with under 11 varsity football players for the final week and only a handful of junior varsity players. Harbor Springs Athletic Director Anna Rigby confirmed the move Monday evening.
It now closes an 0-9 season for Harbor Springs, their second straight winless campaign.
Not looking to be left without a senior night game and a chance to add to their playoff point standing, Charlevoix moved quickly to add Calumet (3-5) to Friday, Oct. 20.
The Copper Kings had been looking for a game since L’Anse (0-9) forfeited it’s season beginning in Week 7.
So, Charlevoix (8-1) will now meet the Division 6 Copper Kings at home and be able to send their seniors off properly.

The two teams have met only three times before, with the last coming back in the 2009 postseason, when Calumet earned a 54-13 win.
A traditionally strong program, this season will come as the first time in 10 years that Calumet won’t be entering the postseason. Since 2005, Calumet has missed the playoffs in just one previous year.
