Harbor Light's Chamberlin scores 1,000th point in win, Charlevoix girls win third straight

MACKINAW CITY — Harbor Light Christian standout David Chamberlin has played through quite a few battles with Mackinaw City over his career.

The senior hooper for the Swordsmen boys basketball team might look back on Thursday night’s matchup with the Comets as his fondest memory among all those games.

Chamberlin scored his 1,000th career point in a 52-39 victory for the Swordsmen on the road with 17 points and six rebounds added on as well.

As most battles with the Comets have been, it took a complete team to get it done, though, as Harbor Light had to work out of a narrow deficit to start.

The Swordsmen then led after each quarter break following the first and increased the lead to 10 after the third.

“Tonight was a great team victory,” Harbor Light coach Jason Roussin said. “It was a big night for both teams, one of the best atmospheres in Northern Michigan. Everyone on the court was ready to play defense and play for their team. It was great to see these boys come together and play 32 minus of basketball.”

Harbor Light's David Chamberlin won't soon forget Thursday's win over Mackinaw City, as he picked up his 1,000th career point in the victory.

Landon Jakeway also added 21 points, five rebounds and six assists for the Swordsmen, while Roussin credited Corin Paulus with a big game defensively and seven points and five boards.

For Mackinaw City, Lucas Bergstrom had 22 points and Trystan Swanson scored eight points.

“This was a story of the ups and downs of an emotional conference game,” Mackinaw City coach John Martin said. “We unfortunately struggled on the offensive end for an extended period in the second half and could not recover. Jason has done a great job of developing this highly experienced team and they definitely came together tonight.”

Mackinaw City (3-2, 1-1 NLC) will next welcome in Pellston for a non-league rivalry on Monday, Dec. 18, while Harbor Light (4-2, 3-1 NLC) next hosts Maplewood Baptist on Thursday, Dec. 21.
