Hailey Katona seizes first Vermont women's amateur golf title
Hailey Katona raced out of the gates.
The newcomer to the Vermont women’s amateur golf ranks shot a one-under 70 in the opening round of the three-day tournament to seize a six-stroke lead.
The Bellows Falls Country Club member stumbled a bit in the second round where she bogeyed five holes and double-bogeyed another holding to just a one-shot advantage over second place at the end of Day 2.
But Katona, who hails from Canada, put the field to rest on Wednesday at Mount Anthony Country Club, shooting a 76 for a three-day total of 10-over 223. Katona parred the back nine, after bogeying the last four holes on the front, to seal the victory. Her tournament best 70 was highlighted by birdies at 13 and 15 on Monday.

Katona became a member at Bellows Falls just this week and will compete at Central Michigan University this fall, according to the Bennington Banner.
Morgan Lee of Ralph Myhre finished with runner-up honors with a 13-over 226.
Tiffany Maurycy (Killington, 14-over), Kaylie Porter (802 Golf Academy, 16-over), Teegan Duffy (Rutland, 19-over), Reggie Parker (Ekwanok, 20-over), Jazz Bruce, (Links at Lang Farm, 21-over), JoJo Valente (Proctor-Pittsford, 21-over), Kanika Gandhi (Vermont National, 23-over) and Jeanne Morrissey (Williston, 24-over) rounded out the top 10.
