H.S. Softball: Reed, Moore help Abilene Wylie finish off Plainview

LUBBOCK – Mycala Reed hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, while Rylee Moore tossed a one-hitter as Abilene Wylie finished off Plainview with a 10-0 victory Saturday to sweep the Region I-5A bi-district softball playoff series at Lubbock Christian University.

Wylie (28-6), which won the opener 11-1 in five innings on Friday, advances to play El Paso Parkland (19-17) in the area round next week.

Game 1 of that series will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Odessa High. Game 2 is noon Saturday at Odessa High, and a third game, if needed, would be played after Game 2.

The Matadors beat El Paso Chapin 11-9 in a decisive Game 3 on Saturday to reach the second round for the first time in seven years. Chapin won the series opener 13-2 on Friday, but Parkland evened the series with a 6-5 win on Saturday to force a winner-take-all game.

The Wylie/Parkland winner plays the Abilene High (27-5)/El Paso Hanks (34-1) winner in the region quarterfinals.

Two-time defending region champion Aledo will most likely be waiting in the region semifinals, barring an upset.

Wylie, a region semifinalist last year, outhit Plainview 22-2 in sweeping the series, which ended with a five-inning, mercy rule game.

Moore struck out eight and walked two in five innings. Liliana Vaquera led off the second with Plainview’s only hit.

Reed doubled in a run and scored in a three-run fourth, and Moore ended the game with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
