H.S. roundup: Wheeler girls beat Griswold in overtime

Dec. 24—NORTH STONINGTON — Skyler Morgan's driving lay-up at the buzzer gave Wheeler a 38-37 overtime girls' basketball victory over Griswold on Thursday night, giving first-year coach Vanessa Kobyluck her first career win.

The Lions (1-3) got to overtime when Addie Hauptmann made a 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation. Hauptmann finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven stills while Morgan added seven rebounds and Marissa Perkins had 11 points.

Hailey Eliasson scored 16 points for the Wolverines (3-2).

Boys' basketball

— Griswold opened its season with a 56-50 win over Putnam on Thursday night. Jeff Souvenance had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Sean Gauvin scored 10 points and Ryan Tate had nine points for Griswold.

Wrestling

— Bacon Academy went 2-3 at the Rockville Duals on Thursday, defeating the host Rams (42-18) and Portland (33-28) while losing to Canton (45-27), Platt (45-24) and Rocky Hill (39-36). Dominic Colella (126, 132 pounds) went 4-1 with four pins for the Bobcats (5-7) while Gabriel Mahon (138) was 4-1 with three pins, Aaron Running (170, 182) was 4-1 with two pins and Jay Witarska (132) was 3-0.
