H.S. ROUNDUP: Offensive outbursts by Hanover baseball, softball lead to wins over Quincy

The Hanover High baseball and softball teams brought their best swings to the ballpark Tuesday.

The baseball team won, 12-0, over Quincy as Owen Kennedy (three hits, 13 strikeouts over five innings) and Connor Currie combined to throw a shutout for the Hawks, whose lineup totaled 13 hits.

The softball team also coasted to victory over Quincy, 16-0, as the Hawks were led by junior Kaelyn Chase (3-for-3, 4 runs) sophomore Abby Hanna (3-for-3, 4 RBIs), juniors Kate Baldinelli (2 hits, double, 2 RBIs), junior McKenzie Foley (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and sophomore Noey Giardina (2-for-2, 3-run home run, 4 RBIs) as the lineup connected for 15 hits as a unit. Chase allowed one hit and struck out six.

BASEBALL

Hingham 9, Silver Lake 7: The Harbormen scored six times in the bottom of the sixth, a rally sparked by Alex McGowan’s three-run double, to avenge an early four-run deficit. For Silver Lake, senior Nick Peterson was 4-for-4 with 3 runs, and classmate Steven Nista was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Bishop Stang 4, Archbishop Williams 0: Stephen Ondrick (2 hits), Joe Schwartz (2 hits) led the Bishops in the loss.

Bishop Fenwick 13, Cardinal Spellman 1: The Cardinals (3-10) lost a league game.

Marshfield 3, Duxbury 2: Jack Keane pitched a complete game for the Rams and he recorded his fifth victory of the season by striking out 7. Jack Doherty (2-RBI double) and Sam Bernard (RBI double) drove in runs for the Rams. Nick Ayres hit a home run for Duxbury. Marshfield center fielder Jack Croft threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the game.

West Bridgewater 13, Holbrook 3: James Harris hit a home run to left field, the first ever at the Wildcats' ballpark, in the win. Ed McMenimon won his first career varsity start on the mound.

Middleboro 6, Durfee 1: The Sachems improved to 7-5.

North Quincy 6, Scituate 3: Vinny O'Leary had 2 hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in one as the Raiders won this Patriot League matchup. Charlie Baker (triple, run, RBI) and Charlie Ambroult (2 hits, double, 2 runs, steal) also starred at the plate. Kevin Pritchard earned the win, allowing an earned run over 4 innings with 4 strikeouts. He also doubled and hit a sacrifice fly. Alex Montero earned the two-inning save and was on base three times.

Pembroke 7, Plymouth South 1: Gabe Rushing earned the win by relinquishing 4 hits in a complete game on the mound and Aidan Sullivan went 2-for-3 with two doubles in the Titans' win. The Panthers drop to 5-6.

Plymouth North 7, Whitman-Hanson 5: The Blue Eagles snapped Whitman-Hanson's nine-game winning streak. Zack Nye hit a tying home run for the Panthers (10-3) in the loss. Matt Phelps (2-for-3) and Brandon Craven (RBI double) also contributed.

Diman 11, Southeastern 1: The Hawks lost.

South Shore Tech 3, Cape Cod Regional Tech 2: Tyrin McDonald drove in the winning run in the eighth inning after a lead-off double by Jake McAleer to lead the Vikings (12-2) to victory. Jake Starbird (13 strikeouts) earned the win on the mound. Gavan McVarish also had an RBI.

Walpole 7, Weymouth 2: Andrew Daley had two hits and 1 RBI for the Wildcats.

SOFTBALL

Canton 8, Foxboro 4: Shealyn Murphy, Jess Wright, Kailyn Durham and Anna Lehan each collected two hits, and Olivia Mackwell had 2 RBIs for the Bulldogs. Murphy earned the win in the circle, and Chloe Guerschuny shined defensively.

Cardinal Spellman 2, Bishop Fenwick 1: Roslyn Quinn walked it off by driving in the winning run with a two-out base hit, as Taylor Dolan pitched a 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Lucy LaCara collected 2 hits.

Marshfield 22, Duxbury 1: Senior Jess Morrison (4 hits), senior Sam Bongiolatti (4 hits) and junior Posey Jones (3 hits) shined as the Rams improved to 10-2 on the season.

Archbishop Williams 4, Bishop Stang 0: Jill Ondrick earned the win by allowing one hit and striking out 11. Alyssa Burke and Candace Sumner each registered two hits as the Bishops improve to 10-4.

Silver Lake 12, Hingham 1: Alanna Waters hit a grand slam as the Lakers' lineup boasted 18 hits in the win: Nina O'Neil had four, Bri Ghilardi and Delaney Moquin each had three. Moquin struck out 14 batters in the circle.

Holbrook 6, West Bridgewater 5: The Bulldogs won a tight game.

Middleboro 17, Mashpee 0: The Sachems racked up 14 runs in the first inning in the South Shore League win.

Taunton 9, Oliver Ames 0: Maddie Homer and Sammy Johnson each had one hit in the Tigers' loss.

North Quincy 5, Scituate 1: The Raiders won this Patriot League matchup.

Plymouth South 3, Pembroke 1: The Panthers won this Patriot League battle.

Notre Dame Academy 13, Ursuline 2: Shannon MacLeod pitched a 4-hitter with 15 strikeouts for NDA (5-5). Piper Levin (3-for-4, triple) and Ava O’Donahue (2-for-5, 3 RBIs) also starred.

Whitman-Hanson 9, Plymouth North 3: The Panthers won their third straight game behind 12 hits among Taryn Leonard, Emi Cooke (4 RBI), Alli Larkin (3 RBI), Haley Leeber, Makenna Kirschner and Olivia Turocy. Lauryn Meade earned the win in the circle, striking out six. Whitman-Hanson improves to 5-7. Callie Smith went 3-for-4 for Plymouth North in the loss, as Haylee Joudrey and Bella Piekarski also hit singles and Victoria Parent laid down a timely bunt to help the Blue Eagles to put three runs on the board in the sixth inning.

Hanover 16, Quincy 0: Kaelyn Chase was 3-for-3 and scored 4 runs and was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit and striking out 6 for the host Hawks (7-5, 6-3 Patriot League). Abby Hanna (3-for-3, 4 RBIs), Noey Giardina (2-for-2, 3-run homer, 4 RBIs), Kate Baldinelli (2 hits, double, 2 RBIs) and McKenzie Foley (2 hits, 2 RBIs) also starred.

South Shore Tech 17, Cape Cod Regional 5: Senior Lexi Mitsiopoulos went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and senior Zoey Bradshaw went 3-for-4 in the win.

BOYS LACROSSE

Abington 15, Hull 4: Hunter Grafton scored 7 goals and facilitated 5 assists, and goaltender Jake Quinn shined as the Green Wave prevailed in a South Shore League matchup.

BC High 11, Saint John’s 5: The Eagles (11-1) have won 10 straight.

Milton 13, Braintree 4: The Wildcats have won three of the last four games.

Duxbury 6, Cohasset 3: The Dragons won this non-league game.

East Bridgewater 9, Mashpee 6: Tom Lavalle, Nikos Trianafilou and Collin Brown led the Vikings (9-6) to victory.

Norwell 16, Rockland 3: The Clippers (10-2) won this South Shore League game.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hull 16, Abington 7: Natalie Van Luling (3 goals), Molly Buccigross, Caitlin Happel, Mary Klein and Molly Joyce scored and goalie Brielle DeJesus made 5 saves for the Green Wave in the loss.

Braintree 13, Milton 8: Senior Bella Duffy scored 4 goals (including the 100th career point) in the Wamps' win. Junior Claire Joyce also scored 4 goals and junior goalie Fiona Reilly made 12 saves.

Thayer Academy 13, Governor's Academy 11: The Tigers won.

Mashpee 15, East Bridgewater 7: Mackenzie Gray scored 4 goals to lead the Vikings to a South Shore League victory. Jenny Francione (2 goals) and Ava Mooney also scored, and goalie Charlotte Wilcox had 20 saves for East Bridgewater.

Norwell 16, Rockland 1: Maddie McDonald (3 goals, 3 assists) and Caroline Burtch (3 goals, 2 assists, 8 draw controls) led the Clippers (9-4) to a South Shore League road win.

Oliver Ames 21, Middleboro 11: Catie Wilson (8 goals), Taylor McAndrew (4), Leanna Hudson (3), Kayla Magit (3), Erin Cottom, Chloe Finch and Alyssa Spatola scored for the Tigers in the win.

New Bedford 16, Southeastern 0: The Hawks drop a non-league game.

Walpole 12, Weymouth 9: Megan Doyle led the Wildcats with 7 points and 11 draw controls (including the 500th of her career) in the loss as Cameron Flaherty finished with 4 points and Sammy Holmes added 1.

GIRLS GOLF

Duxbury 5, Cohasset 1: Harper Capilli, Hannah Stout, Mary Kate Higgins and Hailey Flynn pulled out individual wins for the Dragons, as Layla Penn and Caroline Donovan each salvaged ties.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Quincy/North Quincy 92, Hanover 43: Sofija Slezas won the 100m and 200m, and Brooklynn Rizzo won the discus and javelin for Q/NQ, which also got individual wins from Maddy McGillicuddy (400m), Salma Boukhtam (mile), Aluna Coogan-Coyne (2-mile), Eliza Henry (400m hurdles) and Grace McGough (shot put).

Plymouth North 85, Whitman-Hanson 51: For W-H (1-4), senior captain Sydney Pires won the long jump (15-4) and triple jump (32-6.75). Other winners were Savannah Kamperides (400m, :65.9); Caroline Poth (mile, 6:18.1); and McKenna McCarthy (2-mile, 11:47).

Hingham 112, Duxbury 23: The Harborwomen clinched the Patriot League Keenan Division crown. Hingham got personal bests from Margaret Lowther in the 100m (:12.49) and triple jump (34-11); Sarah Kelley in the 400m hurdles (1:14) and long jump (13-9); and Kelsey Tarby in the triple jump (36-1, sixth-best in program history).

Mayflower Athletic Conference championship: West Bridgewater finished third as Ella Dunbury won the 2-mile and the 800m and Aly Bassett took the 100m hurdles. The 4x10m relay team of Kylie Lewis, Bassett, Lasadia Gurley and Alyssa Caldeira was second in :53.12. Lewis finished second in the 200m, and Viviana Morales-Wakin did the same in the mile.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Quincy/North Quincy 93, Hanover 42: Jayden Francois won the 400m hurdles, 110m hurdles and triple jump for Q/NQ. Jacey Ham also was a triple-winner, taking the 100m, 200m and high jump. Gabe Rodrigues won the shot put and discus, and Q/NQ got single wins from Oisin Coogan-Coyne (400m), Pat Lee (800m), Kyle Clements (mile) and Grant Fuller (javelin).

Hingham 71, Duxbury 65: Brendan Burm set a personal-best in taking second in the mile (4:40.30) and then won the 2-mile (10:21) to clinch the victory for the Harbormen. Also for Hingham: Bryce Botelho won 400m (:52.02); Cole Sampson was second in the javelin (PR 147-0) and won the long jump (19-1); A.J. Barrett was second in the 110m hurdles (PR :16.98) and won the triple jump (38-7.25); Matt Kelly won the discus (PR 112-10); Adam Frisoli won the shot put (38-5.5); and the 4x100m relay of Colin McNamara, Jack Brockney, James Mac Donald and Brendan Hill won in :45.60.

Oliver Ames 94, Canton 42: In the loss for Canton, Mo Arugollu won the long jump and triple jump and was second in the 400m hurdles. Ruairi Ritson won the discus (104-0), and the Bulldogs won the 4x400m relay with Ritson, Arugollu, Dan Krasylnykov and Dan Glemaud running a season-best 3:46. Freshman J.J. Faulk was second in both the 100m (:11.2) and long jump (18-4).

Mayflower Athletic Conference championship: Blue Hills won the team crown with 108 points. West Bridgewater finished third as Sean Carter won the shot put and discus, and Tommy Perna won the triple jump by breaking his own school record. He also was fourth in the high hurdles and ran on the second-place 4x100m relay. Nate Anderson was second in the javelin, and Will DeLuca was second in the 100m and third in the 200m.

BOYS TENNIS

Plymouth North 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: For W-H, Zack Lindsay and Tristan Baker won in three sets at first doubles (6-7, 6-4, 7-6), and James Goyette and Drew Fountain won in three sets at second doubles (1-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Duxbury 5, Marshfield 0: Freshman Alex Davis teamed with sophomore Bennett Stout in doubles to power the Dragons (8-1).
