H.S. Roundup: Lancaster’s Griffin records 100th coaching win

SOCCER

Lancaster 8, Westland 1: The Lady Gales raveled to Westland and earned their first win of the season. Six different Lady Gales scored in the win. Sienna Westbrooks opened the scoring 9:17 into the game on a shot from distance. Lily Palmer then scored on a one-on-one breakaway. Andie Jurecki then scored off a header with 36 seconds left in the first half.

Westbrooks then opened the second half with a goal 2:04 into the half. Caralina Crowell scored on a shot from the right side with 32:27 left in the game. Piper Cupp then scored on a right-footed shot over the goalie 35 seconds later. Izzy Curry then scored two goals with 27:26 and 24:30 left in the game. Grace Hampson recorded 3 saves in goal.

The win was Lancaster coach Brian Griffin’s 100th career victory. Griffin has the most wins in the history of the Lancaster girls' soccer program.

Bloom-Carroll 8, Amanda-Clearcreek 0: The Bulldogs cruised in their MSL-Buckeye Division win over the Aces.

Tessa Brooks scored three goals to lead the way, Mackenzie Haslett had two goals, and Lilly Freistart and Davynn Miller added one goal each. Elizabeth Cline had one save goal.

Fairfield Union 4, Hamilton Township 0: Rachael Warthman scored three goals and Taylor added a goal in the Falcons’ Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Rangers. TylerTeal and Kyla Gasser chipped in one assist each and Mycee Martindill had four saves.

CROSS COUNTRY

Fairfield Union wins CW Invitational: The Falcon boys and girls both placed first at the Canal Winchester Invitational against seven all-division teams.

Anna Conrad finished first overall, Vera Henderly was second, Addy Winters sixth, Abbie Pike 13th, Julia Widener 20th Ava Wilkinson 27th and Natalie Hotrum 60th.

The boys’ team placed first against 10 all-division teams. Drew Walton finished first overall, Christian Reindle second, Nathan Phillips fifth, Connor Myers eighth, Connor Runkle 20th, AJ Ray 22nd, and Chase Miller 23rd.

Liberty Union places sixth: The Lions competed at the Canal Winchester Invitational and placed sixth and were led by Rachel Sponseller (8th, 21:05). She was followed by Taylor Jones (23rd, 22:57), Elizabeth Conn (30th, 23:14), Natalie Cotton (34th, 23:41), Heidi Chabot (42nd, 24:47), Kathleen Slaby (43rd, 25:07), Caroline Endsley (51st, 26:02), Ashley Kessler (52nd, 26:11), MJ McCleese (59th, 27:23), Addison Ross (62nd, 28:05), Lillian McCoy (70th, 30:00), and Sammy Jones (72nd, 30:04).

The boys team placed fifth and was led by Connor Tighe (9th, 17:19). He was followed by Lincoln McCoy (28th, 18:28), William McCreery (37th, 19:05), Baily Chabot (39th, 19:06), Charlie Sponseller (50th, 19:45), Hunter Maddux (71st, 21:42), Micah Strawser (72nd, 20:45), Derek Doersam (75th, 20:52), William Gonzalez (101st, 22:25), and Silas Kohler (125th, 24:55).

Fisher Catholic places third at CW: The Irish boys placed third out of 11 teams at the Canal Winchester Invitational.

Senior Jack Gentile led the Irish with a time of 17:50.9-10th, while sophomores Landen and Roman Funk ran consecutively 17:49.5-16th place and 17:56.7-17th place. Other Irish runners were Thomas Ristau- 18:55.2- 34th, Daschel Neighbor- 19:06.3-38th, Nichols Ristau- 19:20.5- 41st, Reese Hagy- 19: 36.3- 47th, Jake Taylor- 20:59.9- 74th Noah Krile- 22:10.5 Pr- 98th and Anthony Teti- 31:59- 150th.

The Irish Girls placed fourth and were led by senior Ruby Hagy with a time of 21:02- 7th and Senior Ava Albert- 21:34.4- 14th place. Other Irish runners were freshman Mary Grace Crabtree- 22:03.5- 18th- Pr, freshman Allie Krile- 23:42.7-35th and Junior Abigail Crabtree- 24:02.7- 38th.

VOLLEYBALL

Bloom-Carroll 3, Hamilton Township 0: The Bulldogs cruised to a 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Rangers, and in the process, improved to 4-0 overall.

Evelyn Brown had 11 kills and four blocks, Sylvia Haughn finished with seven kills and three blocks, Madison Lacy had 35 assists and three blocks and Mia Matchett chipped in 10 digs and four aces.

Fairfield Union wins a pair: The Falcons topped Logan Elm 25-19, 25-17, 25-4 in MSL-Buckeye Division play to improve to 5-1 on the season. Christian Thompson led with 27 kills and 13 digs. Cara Miller had 23 digs and Emily Burke had 22 assists and Addy Wolfe had six blocks.

The Falcons defeated Zanesville 25-8, 25-4, 25-4 in non-conference action. Thompson led with 15 kills. Brooklyn Ash had 10 assists, Emily Burke with six kills and Molly Brown had nine aces.

Fairfield Christian Academy 3, Miller 0: The Knights (4-2, 2-0) topped the Falcons 25-12, 25-18, 25-12 in MSL-Cardinal Division play. Sylvia Ross had 18 kills and two blocks, Sam Rouser finished with 13 assists and eight digs, Ella Koehler had nine kills and Claire Deem added 11 assists and 10 digs. Fisher Catholic 3, Harvest Prep 0: The Irish cruised in their MSL-Cardinal Division opener by topping the Warriors 25-5, 25-5, 25-10.

Sydney Snoke had five kills and two assisted blocks, Abby Krooner had three kills, three assists, and nine aces, and Ellie Bruce finished with eight kills, five aces, two assisted blocks and four solo blocks.

GOLF

Lancaster competes in OCC: The Gales shot a 375 at the third OCC tournament at Denison Golf Course which was good for fourth place. The Gales were led by Gabe Betts with an 88. Jacob Miller shot a 93, Zane Brengman 94, Camden Campbell 100, and Devon Schultz 104.

Fairfield Union places first: The Falcons traveled to Pickaway Country Club to compete against Circleville, Logan Elm and Vinton County. The Falcons fired a 169 which was good enough for first place. Circleville had 172, Logan Elm 188 and Vinton Co at 202.

Elijah Reed led the Falcons with 40 and was co-medalist. Isaiah DeLong 41, Ty Fisher 43, Bryce Lepi 45 Caleb Boyer 48 and Landen Lee 54.

Berne Union 199, Zanesville Rosecrans 219: The Rockets topped the Bishops as Colt Probasco led Berne Union with a 47 and was the match Medalist.

Bloom-Carroll girls: The Bulldogs fell short against Granville, 165-195. McKenna Phillips had a 44, Niley Mathias 45, Zoey Comston 51 and Sophia Eller 55.

The Bulldogs came right and picked up a win 210-244 win over Logan Elm. Niley Mathias was the medalist with a 44 to lead the way for B-C and was followed by McKenna Phillips 50, Zoey Comston 58, Sophia Eller 58
