H.S. Roundup: Lancaster boys track places first at Dublin Classic

TRACK

Lancaster takes home title: The Golden Gales’ boys track and field team finished in first place at the Joe Lenge Dublin Classic.

The Golden Gales finished with 107 points in the 17-team field. Dublin Coffman (79) finished second, followed by Olentangy Liberty (68), Thomas Worthington (67) and Hilliard Bradley (59) rounded out the top five.

Scoring placers for Lancaster were: Mixed gender distance medley relay - 7th - Lily Carpico, Adyzon Bunting, Owen Rice, Carter Schorr; 4x800 relay - 3rd - Kaiden Lanoy, Isaiah Lanoy, Oliver Roush, Alex Rodenbaugh; 110 hurdles - Brendon Simcox 1st; 100 - Gunner Richards 5th; 1,600 Zane Schorr 1st; 4x100 relay - 7th - Gavin Smith, Devon Totten, Lukas Lang, Gunner Richards; 300 hurdles - Brendon Simcox 1st; 800 - Wes Taylor 2nd, Trevor Lanoy 5th; 200 - Gunner Richards 4th; 3,200 - Kaiden Lanoy 3rd; 4x400 relay - 7th - Brendon Simcox, Isaiah Lanoy, Trevor Lanoy, Wes Taylor; pole vault - Daniel Edwards 1st, Lukas Lang 2nd; high jump - Kyrell Jackson 3rd, Logen Justice 6th; long jump - Daniel Edwards 1st, Quinton Green 6th.

Liberty Union places first: The Lions finished in the Zuber Relays as they finished with 131 points. Columbus Academy (73) finished second, followed by West Muskingum (71), Fairfield Christian Academy (63) and West Jefferson (55) rounded out the top five in the nine-team field.

Fisher Catholic finishes first: The Irish boys’ team placed first in the small-school division at the Portsmouth Invitational, scoring 112 points.

Senior Noah Sharp set a new school record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:21.47 to place first, and he was first in the 3,200 (10:09.6). Jake Krooner was first in the 300 hurdles (43.99) and third in the high jump (5-8), Nolan Garrabrant was second in the high jump (4-8), Jack Gentile placed first in the 800 (2:03.1) and Daschel Neighbor was second in the 110 high hurdles (18.56). Nathan Krile was second in the pole vault (10-6) and third in the 400 (54.94).

The Irish girls placed second in the small school division with 99 points. Junior Abby Krooner won the 100 hurdles (18.16), was second in the 300 hurdles (53.48) and was fourth in the long jump (12-9). Ruby Hagy placed first in the 1,600 (5:40.8) and second in the 800 (2:25.17).

The 3,200 relay team of Ava Albert, Maggie Murphy, Charli Gillum, and Ruby Hagy placed first (11:22.6), and Ava Albert was second in the 2,300 (13:49) and third in the 1,600 (6:16.1).

Fairfield Union girls place first: The Lady Falcons finished first out of 16 teams at the Hank Smith Invitational.

Anna Conrad was the major points winner for the Falcons with two individual wins (1,600 and 800) and was on two winning relay teams (3,200 and 1,600 relays).

Fairfield Union’s boys' team placed sixth out of 16 teams.

BASEBALL

Fredericktown 6, Fairfield Christian Academy 0: After knocking off the No. 1 team in the state, the Knights fell short in the championship game of the Barnesville Brad Wilson Shamrock Classic, falling 6-0 to Fredericktown.

The Knights finished with six hits with Matthew Carpenter leading the way with two. Aiden Langwasser, Brayden Stem, J.P. Vance, and Jimmy Schmitz rounded out the offense with one hit each Gabe Linn took the loss on the mound as the Knights fell to 9-3 on the season.

SOFTBALL

Liberty Union sweeps DH: The Lions swept a doubleheader as they defeated Maysville 20-5 in the first game and topped Berne Union 18-3 in Game 2.

Against the Panthers, Liberty Union had 17 hits. Payton Hochradel went 3-for-3, Adi Osterman was 3-for-4 and scored five runs, Emmalee Putnam had two hits and Emily Kanet finished with two hits, including a double and four RBI. Hochradel picked up the win in the circle, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.

Against the Rockets, the Lions had 18 hits, led by Putnam, who went 4-for-4, including a home run, triple and five RBI. Audrey Farmer was 3-for-4, including a home run and three RBI and Kanet went 3-for-4, while Hochradel, Osterman and Suzie Shultz had two hits each. Shultz picked up the win in the circle as she gave up one earned run and struck out seven.
