CROSS COUNTRY

▸Lancaster boys: The Golden Gales won their final regular season tune-up, defeating Unioto, Chillicothe, Logan, and 24 other teams on the highly technical Unioto home course. The tight opening loops and numerous momentum breaks made a strong start imperative to find space and the most efficient lines.

The Lancaster runners ran well to establish solid early positions without overextending themselves and held six spots in the top 20 at the mile mark.  The Gales held or improved their positions in the middle mile, Lancaster’s frontrunners competed especially well to the finish, reducing the Gales final score to just 35 points. Unioto finished in second place with 115 points, followed by Chillicothe with 143 points.

The Gales were led once again by Wes Taylor who placed second in 15:33. Zane Schorr was the second Lancaster runner to cross the line, followed by Owen Rice whose 16:13 finish was the fastest of his career. Carter Schorr and Carter Davis completed the Gales scoring five with Brock Jarrett and Oliver Roush as effective “displacers”.  Seven of 20 Lancaster athletes ran new personal bests as the Gales now look ahead to the championship season with confidence and valuable experience.
