The Guardians fell just short of pulling off the sweep in a 6-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field.

In the eighth, Taylor Walls singled to right field and Jose Siri narrowly avoided the tag by catcher Bo Naylor at the plate, giving the Rays a 3-2 lead.

The Rays took a 2-0 lead in the third on Rene Pinto's two-run home run to the Home Run Porch in left field.

The Guardians (66-71) chipped away, as Josh Naylor and Ramon Laureano hit RBI singles to eventually tie the score 2-2.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the sixth, Laureano made a sliding catch in right field to keep it tied. But the Rays scored a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to avert the series sweep.
