Griswold's Hardin named Athlete of the Week; vote now in new poll

Griswold’s Andrew Hardin has been voted The Bulletin “Athlete of the Week” for the third week of the spring season. The Wolverines junior pitcher allowed one earned run over six innings while striking out seven in Griswold’s 10-5 win over Ledyard. Hardin also had two hits at the plate.

Last week saw plenty of standout performances in baseball, softball, girls' lacrosse, and boys outdoor track and field throughout Eastern Connecticut. While there's no shortage of talent, we went and found the best of the best.

Here are the nominees:

Everton Brown, Killingly

Brown, a junior, earned a trip to nationals with a personal best time of 10.54 seconds while winning the 100 meter dash in an outdoor track and field meet against Wheeler and Griswold. Brown also set a school record with his winning time.

Amelia Driscoll, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats sophomore went 5-for-5 and drove in seven runs while leading NFA to a 10-3 girls softball win over East Lyme. Driscoll blasted a three-run homer during her big day.

Ayden Kempesta, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats senior pitcher tossed a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts to lift NFA to a 3-0 baseball victory over Fitch. Kempesta also paced the Wildcats’ offense by going 3-for-3 at the plate.

Landon Manzi, Killingly

Manzi, a junior pitcher, tossed a complete game three-hitter to lift Killingly to a 12-0 baseball win over Plainfield, 12-0. Manzi struck out nine and walked none.

Manzi also earned the win in Killingly’s 10-3 victory over New London. He allowed just two hits, no earned runs, and struck out six over five innings.

Alice Rourke, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats senior Alice Rourke scored her 100th career goal in NFA’s 15-3 girls lacrosse win over RHAM. Rourke had two goals and two assists.

Rourke also scored three goals in the Wildcats’ 19-1 victory over Woodstock Academy. She capped her big week with an eight-goal performance in a 16-1 win against Bacon Academy.
