Griswold's Caron named athlete of the week; vote now in new poll

Caron, a junior, collected six goals and one assist in leading the Wolverines to a 14-8 girls lacrosse victory over Woodstock Academy. She also poured in six goals with five assists in a 20-6 win over New London/St. Bernard.

Caron added three goals and one assist in the Wolverines’ 10-7 loss to Bacon Academy/East Hampton and also scored three goals in a loss against Wheeler.

Overall, Caron finished the week with 18 goals, 13 ground balls, six caused turnovers, and 33 draw controls.

Last week saw plenty of standout performances in baseball, softball, and girls lacrosse across Eastern Connecticut. While there's no shortage of talent, we went and found the best of the best.

Morgan Cook, Norwich Tech

The Warriors senior catcher went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in Norwich Tech’s 22-1 five-inning mercy-rule softball win over Vinal Tech. Cook also went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and six RBIs in a 20-4 win over Putnam as the Warriors improved to 11-7.

Erika Horne, Killingly

Killingly’s senior goalkeeper had an impressive game with seven key saves in a 15-6 girls lacrosse win over Montville as Killingly improved to 7-4.

Rose Lopez, Ellis Tech

The Golden Eagles sophomore pitcher tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead Ellis Tech past Goodwin Tech, 14-0. Lopez struck out nine and walked none. At the plate, Lopez had two hits, including a double, triple, and drove in three runs.

Lopez was also the winning pitcher in the Golden Eagles’ 19-6 (5) softball win over Tourtellotte. Lopez struck out seven and walked one. The sophomore also had three hits, including a double, and drove in six runs.

Keyan Mayernik, Plainfield

The Panthers senior lefthander struck out 12 to lead the Plainfield baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Bacon Academy.

Molly Page, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats junior scored four goals and dished out two assists in leading NFA to an 8-7 girls lacrosse win over Ledyard.

Madison Waltke, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats senior third baseman went 4-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs to power NFA to an 11-2 softball victory over East Lyme.
