Green Wave open postseason with Fort Chiswell tonight

Nov. 10—NARROWS, Va. — Two Giles County football teams began the Class 1C playoffs this week: Narrows at home and Giles on the road.

Narrows (8-2) opens post season play tonight at Harry Ragsdale Field in Narrows, taking on Fort Chiswell (4-6) in a 7 p.m. game.

On Thursday night Giles (3-7) traveled to Independence, Va. for a rematch with the Blue Devils (9-1), who prevailed 14-6 in the contest.

The Green Wave carry winning momentum into tonight's football game, having upended upstart contender Bath County 47-19 last week to seal the Pioneer District championship. The week prior, Narrows thrashed Craig County 54-0.

"I felt like we accomplished what we wanted to do in those games. We had a good focus and I thought we got what we needed," said Green Wave head coach Kelly Lowe.

"We were thrilled last week. We knew Bath County had a good football team. We knew that we had to play a really good game. They came out really solid in the first half and we had a couple of mistakes that went against us," Lowe said.

"We settled down and made some adjustments at halftime and came out and played really well in the second half. We've done that a time or two this year. We've had some pretty big second halves. It's a testament to our coaches making adjustments and our kids doing what they're coached to do," Lowe said.

He noted that this time of the year is when offseason work ethic in the weight room really starts to pay dividends.

As No. 2 seed in the region, Narrows is guaranteed at least two home playoff games — providing they win, of course. Grayson County is the region's top seed.

The Green Wave boast excellent personnel at all positions, but Kolier Pruett — who made a midseason transition to quarterback — is an entirely unique animal.

Pruett has 24 total touchdowns, rushing and returns — with four scores off kickoffs and punts. He has 780 yards rushing, He has 340 yards receiving, with four TD catches. He has 865 yards passing with 13 scoring strikes.

"He is just all over the place, in stats," Lowe said.
